    His car was number 1

in 93 at willow springs the entire group of challenge drivers with their cars were photographed. I will have to look for that photo.

Rob I most certainly will not argue with you on this one. I was not at the 94 race and first went in 95. Moreover I was in my teens then and just a casual observer so I cannot claim the type of first-hand knowledge you would certainly have had.

On the subject of the HANS it is interesting to note that it first went on sale in 1991 with prices from $3000-$5000 and that by the year 2000 there were less than 300 in circulation. GLB would have been among the first users of the HANS and it certainly would have been a unique sight at the race track. The first time I saw it was 1999 @ Daytona where I saw Jim Downing wearing it. It looked very odd to me so I approached him and asked him about it. That was my first introduction to the device and I was unaware that it was comercially available before then. My appologies for the spreading of any mis-information.

Early generation Hans devices looked like a very high collar wrapping about 140° around the back of the drivers helmet. Think Darth Vader as a racer...

One of the earliest Challenge bulletins was wiring modification / installation of two fan switches in the center stack and recommendations that the fans be activated at all times on track.

Here's the modification in my car. The center switch with the guard is the ignition cut-off switch.

Miller Motorcars also modified the shift gate by making the gates wider and adding the reverse-first gear lock-out...

Would love to know if you have any installation instructions for the seat covers? I have an old OMP seat I am restoring (not for race car use, sadly) and have a cover from OMP, but no instructions. What is the cable for and where/how does it attach? How do I get the cover to lay down on the seat itself? Adhesive? With foam cushioning underneath?

Some parts of the seat cover are obvious, some are mysterious. Another example, why did some of the seat pads come with foam inside, but some are just the covers (i.e. no foam inside)?

I *THINK* I've finally got a guy at OMP who's willing and wants to help - we'll see.... But if not, if you could provide any assistance or point me in a direction, I sure would appreciate it!

    Thanks!

    Just love reading this thread!

How high will the engine rev?

    # 18 of the North American Challenge cars, or Challenge cars alltogether?

    Spider? Where?

yes the cover is glued down the middle, the wire keeps the outer section down behind the seat and its held in place by a spring at the bottom of the seat.
the seats have built in foam and addition foam cushions.

can you email me a photo of your seat cover to

    rockasuto.ca

I am going to remake the covers but if you have a connection for covers from omp that would make life easier.

    cheers
