Unfortunately my seats F40 348 SS carbon fiber style are a trick to get into, any new passengers I have to give a little speech and demonstration how to get in or out or else they will either rip their pants or gouge their thigh or worse wreck my leather

So answer to your original question I get in using my arms first hold myself up then my a$$ then my feet :D, this is 10x easier with top down on the car.

I tried the ass first technique, it was a lot easier on my back.

Someone asked me yesterday how he should get in.... I said with all those buttons on your jeans, I wont let you get in. Then the ass first technique was the choice of a few other people without me mentioning a thing. It made me remember this thread :)

This is how it goes getting in.

Leg, swivel, sit, swing. Easy as one, two, three.

Now, getting out takes a bit of getting used to. It goes like this.

    Leg, swivel hip, kick, lean.

If all goes well your momentum will find you on your feet. If not done so well, repeat, and really try this time. It can be a bit embarrasing missing your move and falling back into the seat.

I seat myself seat first even in my Rolls-Royce.

Feet first is for kids in a swimming pool who are afraid to swim.

GT a## first swivel legs in.

Vintage Race Cars stand on seat. Drop down.

Modern Race Cars remove steering wheel legs first.

I stand corrected in detail. However I have neither a vintage nor a modern race car.

I thought it WAS nice of Jim to take off his shoes first for the Auto Union.

I have found that the right foot first on the drivers foot rest with hand on the top of the windshield lower into the seat then left foot in works best. It is rare that I drive with the top on so like dcate said haven't done it the same way twice but then I don't think I've done with the top on more than twice. (328GTS)

In my Exige Race car with roll cage. Very difficult unless you do it this way:

    Steering Wheel Off
Head in all the way, even a little past the drivers seat
Hands on either side of the seat bolster, push up from hands
    Slide Butt in chair
    Bring legs around

Sounds hard, but I can do it in less than 5 seconds now, albeit with a lot of practice. Getting out is the exact reverse, again, I can do it in less than 5 seconds, and that's with full safety gear.

I thought the heels went against the bottom of the roof. :)

PS If you want to preserve the stitching on the bolster part of your front seat, lift your butt ALL the way over it and then into the seat.

Mine doesn't have the roll cage, and the wheel doesn't detach, so my procedure is:

Duck way down and head all the way in
Right hand on parking brake, left hand on front of sill
    Right leg in
Lift butt over sill (pausing to sit on sill and take a breather if needed)
Left hand to back of sill
Push up and lift butt into seat
Both hands to left knee (the one that doesn't work right) to help lift left leg in.
    Tighten harness
    Reach for start button
    Swear
    Loosen harness
    Press start button....

Getting out is only slightly less elegant.
