Real reason is in this country great service does not exist.

Mediocre at best and for TOO MUCH money for what performed.

More complicated machines to service as the flat twelves present a problem and when they are so low in value to buy as the Testarossas they will appeal to people that can buy them but can not afford to service them....end result the cars get a bad wrap.

It is so obvious even with the BBs for the last ten years how slow they have been appreciating.......no wonder.... every time a particular car comes up for discussion all the existing owners talk how they should be worth less because they should need a ton of money to sort out!!!!??.....why ....because that is what they own.....end result most buyers unfamiliar with the cars and wanting one are afraid to step up and get them for what they are worth because the existing owners advertise how expensive they are to service.

The truth is they are not expensive to maintain if you know the car,but how can that be if it is going to be your first one?

In the last thirty years as with all my cars I had to pay more attention fixing issues created by the service instead of enjoying a trouble free experience after having service done.

No different than going to the doctor in this country.....all you will do spend tons of money and get nothing for it and quite often damage to your health.

Truth is TRs are so low that as more people wake up to the fact regardless of what they are or not they will appreciate some.
Eventually they will be worth what they sold for new but that is going to take a few decades from now.

    Mario

Very much agreed - until I found Ben.

He is highly skilled, meticulous and given his true input of (only) value adding Hrs, he has reasonable pricing:

Shamless plug from a satisfied customer (no other affiliation).

    Apologies for the digression.

I remember seeing a spreadsheet / text file with sales numbers for all the various Ferraris & various years, but can't seem to find this now (anyone have this link?).

As I recall there were only around 500 Testarossas made in Right Hand Drive. I would have thought this would make it quite rare & maybe will affect future prices in UK & Australia?

By the way, I love that old Fifth gear video!!! Who would have thought the Testarossa would be the most popular out of all the other fabulous Ferraris they listed!

The Testarossa is _the_ supercar, ... at least for someone that grew up with Test Drive on Amiga 500, anyone remember? "Boy you were flying back there".

I snapped this photo one winter morning...

If the TR is not the baddest SOB on the planet, I don't know what is!

    to quote Pulp Fiction...

"The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd."

    I remember when...

Dino's were cheap because they were fiats...

Miuras were cheap, because the motor and trans shared their oil... And broke...

Countaches were crap, felt like kit cars...

    Cobras were just used cars...

    Dusenbergs were scrapped, and rebodied

911rs had an ugly tail, no one wanted...

    Yenkos were just used cars...

Dodge super birds were just ridiculous looking...

None of those cars had any hope of going up in value...

Oh yeah. And testarossas were too expensive to maintain to have any value...

to piggy back on bo's post, the Testarossa is also, generally speaking, perhaps the most recognized flagship car of all time. Certainly for a specific generation that is coming of age and means.

I can't imagine someday, perhaps not in the near future, but someday the Testarossa will be appreciated and also appreciate from today's values.

So, where are all the buyers now. How many current owners are jumping in to get another before they are all gone? Anyone? Testerossa . . .the new gold.

It's a joke. There have been people for years saying these cars are going to skyrocket and it has not happened. I have a 308 and have no faith they are ever going to be worth much money. If you want a car buy one, but don't start to think they are going to go up now or anytime in the future. They made loads of TRs in 3 iterations and they made loads of 308/328. Plenty of nice ones out there and always will be. We are not speaking about low production Ferraris.

I have no care if they go up or not, I just giggle at all the excitment from a meaningless article and each time one of these posts pops up. Do some reseach on this site and you will see they come up every couple years; last time was from a dealer on west coast who just bought one for himself at 54K and could not squeal fast enough about how the market was going to take off, of course it has since gone down.

Enjoy the car don't be worried about the value.

I'll tell you a car that is as good as gold. I've watched it ever since the early 2000s. Porsche 993 and especially the 993 turbos. Clean examples seem to be appreciating by the day. I want to buy up all of the clean ones. 993 twin turbo s cars which are pretty rare were in the 70s back then. I've seen them north of 200 now. Wowsers

I love the TR, but not-many TR 1st owner loved their cars back - I remember them sold as the Italian Mercedes, and most owners treated them as-such. Rode hard, put-away wet, and discarded when the 80s were over. They got Mercedes maintenance, too - ie. NONE. Many still don't - there are parts in the engine bay that are NLA, yes? Folks still riding-around with cloth-braided hoses, yes? The list of people is short who want to pay $50K for a car that needs $50K in belt/hose/brake/suspension/gasket/clutch/valve/coolant/dash service just to drive like Don Johnson. There are loads of 360s for sale that can do that faster for 2/3rds of the cash, and have a better parts supply.
