Hello, Can someone explain to me why some F430s have a painted section below the rear light and the bumper and other have a black or possibly a cf section. I have recently started looking for a f430 to replace my Porsche. I have decided I want a coupe not sure of the 6man vs f1 debate but I'm open to both. Thanks Vic
It is not painted. It is a carbon fibre grill, which is optional extra. It is worth around 10k. Enhances looks and engine ventilation to a certain degree.
You are welcome! Good luck with your purchase. Either F1 or manual are fantastic cars. Keep us posted!
It is often referred to as "the challenge rear grill" as in the Ferrari Challenge cars. You'll also see "challenge rims" on some of the cars - they have the rounder spokes with rounder openings, as opposed to the "star" spoked rims.
Welcome to Fchat. the CF rear section is RARE! the only thing more rare is the 6 sp STICK. I've been trying to find one with both but have pretty much given up. its going to be one of the other i think...Best of luck to ya! There's F1's all over though but just not with the CF grill. sure looks nice and makes your car more unique. Cheng
I've seen the CF rear on a few '06's though so i think it was an option prior to '07. I doubt many would go through the trouble of retro-ing the CF rear onto the std F430 rear.
10K maybe in London but I think it was $1800 USD in the US. I ordered it on my car. Yes, it's CF. Not many 2006's have them. Most were made in 2007-8 as people got tired of the same look for 3 years.
Thank you for the clarification. I have seen it a very few cars. I met with an independent repair shop here in Monterey yesterday, he had plenty of Ferrari there but no f430. . I am looking around and hopefully will find my car. I will post a pic once the deal is done!
Challenge grills are common on the 360 but no so much on the 430. It wasn't on my list of must haves on my car and it doesn't have it. I was never crazy about that option but it's grown on me the last few years. Forget about converting a car that doesn't have one already. It's a huge expense. 430 that is, the 360 is an easy conversion.
Does the whole rear bumper have to be replaced if one wants to put a challenge grill on the car? It sure looks that way to me. I like the look either way, I don't really have a preference one way or another. On the 360, I think that I'm one of the rare people that have a preference for the painted panel instead of the challenge grill. It's almost a toss up, but I do sway towards the painted panel if I'm only taking looks into account. Of course I do like the function of the challenge grill better.
I can understand and agree with you regarding the 360 because the 360 rear end is many times better styling than than the 430 where they tried to make it look like a mini-Enzo, but in doing so made the rear height look similar to a skyscraper. Pete
Yes. It's too expensive to retro fit this. It costs about 9 grand. Looking at used F430's, the CF grill adds nothing to resale value. Cars with and without that are similar years, colors, and mileage are all being listed for the same price.
Wow that is expensive to add, I guess it has it or it doesn't. No one is really going to add it then. Thanks for the info!
