Trying to find out if my side mirrors can fold in automatically when I park the car without having to turn the switch myself. Thanks!

I read the manual awhile ago and don't recall seeing a setting for the mirrors to fold when the car is turned off, but I could have missed it.

Pretty sure not. Would be a good idea.

Don't think there's a button to automatically fold external rear view mirrors. I have this function on my BMW very useful when using public parking or parking on narrow streets.

You cannot fold the mirrors automatically.

You can only manually move them.

Via the power knob used to select left or right mirrors for adjustment (rotate dot to 6 o'clock position). So, they don't "automatically" fold when you turn the ignition off, but they are powered.

I believe it is, turn to the left and the drivers side folds in, turn to the right and both fold in...?

No, the right and left positions are for adjustment only. For folding, it is both mirrors folded or nothing. The bottom position - as previous poster said - the 6 o'clock position - is used to fold them both in.

Hey, at least they power-fold :D. On a more serious note, have you tried leaving the mirror button at the 6 o'clock position? Remember reading if you leave it there, they unfold when reaching 3 mph (for safety reasons). Then retract when turning engine off, basically operating like an auto-folding feature. Doesn't hurt to try. And report your results for the masses :D. Good luck.

I will try that again but from memory they don't open up (unlike most other cars) if you leave it on the 6 o'clock position...

On a related issue...can you adjust the vehicle's settings so that the right sided mirror doesn't dip down to view the curb when reversing the car? I hate when that happens.

    I love that feature!

However if you don't, just set the mirror where you want when it is in reverse and it will go there every time you go into reverse...

That's an awesome feature! Saved me from curbing my diamond finish rims on more than one occasion. Aim the dial to twelve o'clock you should be ok.

I stand corrected. My 2012 Cali has electric fold mirrors, by putting the switch at 6:00.

Mine too. Learned something new from this thread. Yes I read the manual twice it leaves something to be desired. I always used the feature of passenger side mirror rotating down when reversing.

I use/need both. Look-down reversing when parallel parking, and no-change when backing into the garage. I think if the mirrors always folded in when the car was turned off, the motors or gears that do that wouldn't hold up long. I still haven't tried to see if they automatically unfold at >5mph.

I wish the power folding was pushing one simple button as in my BMW. Much more simplistic than rotating the mirror knob to 6 o'clock IMO. The look-down reversing is programmed through iDrive in the BMW.

Why do you go no-change when packing into garage?

OK, my mirrors fold down when I put the knob to 6 O'Clock, and I'd like to set them to peek down when I put the car in reverse. If that is possible (which it seems to be based on a few comments) how do I set it to do that?

It is pretty cool to find new things as you move forward; I didn't even know they folded in prior to reading this thread, and now I can amaze my friends with one more trick the car will perform. Now if I can get them to look down to avoid curb strikes (and also because my driveway is much easier to back into if it did that) my learning will be complete for this part of the car... Bob H

Because my garage is rather narrow and I want to see more or less straight back rather than tilted down. When tilted down, by the time I see the door post, I'm probably hitting it.

I don't exactly recall but think you set knob to either left or right mirror detent. Then when you hit reverse, it tilts. I don't recall because I don't use it that much.

IF the Cali is like the 458 and FF, you can only get outside mirror tilt-down if you have electric seats.

IF you have them, the directions are in the manual (at least in 458 and FF).

Get in the car, start it. Set all the positions you want (mirrors, seat, wheel) and enter them into the electric seat memory. You should get a confirmation beep.

Then, put the car in reverse (foot on brake), adjust the mirror to how you want it to tilt down; then push the same seat memory button and hold until you hear a beep.

Once you do all that, when you hit the seat memory button, when you put the car in reverse the mirror should tilt down.

Our 458 has racing seats/manual wheel tilt, so doesn't work, but this works fine in the FF. Again, unsure if Cali does but would imagine Ferrari uses the same system across cars.

If you have the electric seats with memory, you can program the mirror to tilt down when in reverse.

Then leave the power mirror knob on the passenger mirror position 4:00. Whenever you reverse the mirror will now automatically tilt down.

The only weird thing about the mirror control is the rubbery nature of the knob shaft. I always worry that it is going to snap and break. I could really care less about having the mirrors automatically fold in or out. But then I live in the US where the roads are wide enough for modern cars. Not like Europe where the roads are very narrow and cars pass within inches or centimeters of parked cars.

Thanks for sharing this. Now I need to get brave enough to leave my car parallel parked on a public street! I do use the folding feature when pulling into my garage, though, since I have separate garage doors for the cars which have narrower widths.

I agree about the knob shaft. Kind of reminds me of growing up using the joysticks from the Atari 2600.
