Someone asked who Dennis Collins is: Collins Brothers Jeep Collins Brothers Jeeps and Jeep Parts

He and Richard Rawlings are/were also 'Cannon Ball Run' Racers.

Dennis Collins | Hemmings Blog: Classic and collectible cars and parts

They are also mentioned in Alex Roy's book on Cannon Ball racing...

    Good reality TV story...

I was on a flight a few month's back. The stewardess sees me reading Sports Car Market and asks if I was into cars. I told her that I certainly am and she asked if I watched Counting Cars on History channel. She was the lady who with her husband were the NJ 'buyers' of the 1971 Ford F100 pick up supposedly found and restored by the shop. It was the one with the wood along the the top of the sides of the bed.

She told me that the truck belonged to her and her husband and the show asked them if they wanted to be part of the show and 'buy' their own truck..... Don't believe anything on 'reality' tv ;)

Ferrari of Houston Body Shop probably had the frame jigs...

Not sure how many others, having an F40 "to look at" isn't quite the same thing, IMO.

You are right (and I am wrong) on that......it's a race car.
Roland had to do the same thing (but he didn't build his frame, as I understand it).

I'm just saying factory jigs would the BEST way, but certainly not the only way.

AJ Foyt (and others) built Indy cars off chaulk lines on the floor.....

EDIT: If memory serves, Roland actually had blueprints, from someone...

Thanks, I was curious about his history.

Awesome! I'll be looking over this later.

    ---

Back to the original topic though; I finally caught the re-run tonight.

It wasn't what I expected. Are they doing a follow-up episode about the repair?

It won't be Ferrari Certified if it is not a thoroughbred right?

I met Dennis today and he showed me a ton of pics on the finished car. They just completed it. I am not going to give anything away but I am going to say that everyone needs to be prepared to be blown away. It is absolutely insane.

The LED's are in the running lights and turn signal area, there are no headlights anymore being replaced by louvers it looks like.

They will probably get $1.5 million at auction and then tell the camera they lost $75,000 and need to go buy some beer. :)

I think that many people would say that about a wrecked 355 that someone wanted to buy to make into an F40.

I saw how these guys did this. You can argue about the aesthetics all you want but this car could not have been rebuilt or put back together any better or more properly.

And I'm pretty sure they're not selling it at auction.

You mean put back to "as original" condition. I was referring to the integrity of their work.

They could have but that would have been a waste of an opportunity. With this, they will have gotten everything they've wanted: a chance to push the envelope, the attention in doing do (both the praise and the detraction), and also higher offers for their one of a kind F40. I would not do something like this to a good car but for this car, I think it's great what they did. And remember, these guys have a TV show. No one watches a TV show to see normal crap. They had to push the envelope and they really show off the caliber of their skills.
