Caution on cylinder head gaskets for the QV. We just went through all those available and guess what, they don't work correctly. Had to have some custom made in Germany. It's weird but as I understand it the one's from Ferrari leak for awhile and that is acceptable according to them. They promise that they will stop leaking eventually. Another Ferrari mystery. Just be warned.

That's exactly what I have heard. Norwood Performance sells some heavy duty gaskets I'll probably end up using. The worst thing would be putting it all back together and seeing it fail again, especially with a cooling system such as this one! I'm taking no chances since I have the motor out.

Best of luck and reminder just because re-torque at 3000 miles on new gaskets.

Will keep that in mind! Thanks. I just hope the rest of the motor is okay; it overheated quite a bit.

Where are you located in DF/W?
I am in North Dallas. I had the same problem with my '83 QV - coolant in the oil. Unfortunately, I have had many long delays in putting her back together. But this picture is as of this morning - ready to visit James at Norwood's for the degree wheel and coolant pressure test. PM me if you would like to commiserate. I may have some of the tools you need to borrow.

    Hi Art,

I am in North Arlington. PM me if you want to swing by sometime and take a look at the car/motor. I'm still trying to figure out the plan with all this so maybe we can put our heads together!

Update: I am still alive. Can't believe the car hasn't been running for over 2 and a half years now-life gets busy. The water manifold proved to be quite stubborn(or corroded and bonded to the block). And I don't even want to know the struggle with taking the heads off(per the wisdom of the Great Randy at Boardwalk Ferrari). I may be having Shade Tree pick up and take the motor apart for me to check for corrosion/if water had gotten inside. I really wanted to do all the work myself, but this is a Ferrari engine, not a 4-banger!

(Already toying with the notion of stickier tires, modern brembos, tubi exhaust.)

Make sure all of the nuts are off! Tap the head with a rubber mallet.

We have removed all the 10 bolts along with the washers on each head. Tried all day yesterday to pull the head out by tapping. NO LUCK. Any ideas or leads or pictures of how to make a puller for V8 4value engine?
