    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/detailing-showroom/410108-mysterious-glass-garage.html

After seeing this thread, and realizing that I was still going to build a trap door/stairs from the main living area down to the showroom/garage....well I sorta researched and unearthed a 36" square piece of 1" 'bullet proof" glass and am adding a glass floor window adjacent to the door/stairs. Found a warehouse in Reno that had salvaged a very old Wells Fargo bank vault that once housed a windowed office where a guard greeted vault goers. It took 4 men to carry this 3 foot square piece of glass, HEAVY! It's freakin unbelievably kewl :D

Photos coming, showing the stage we are at, getting close to move-in :)

Here is the window that will look down onto the cars from the main living quarters...it will all be put together so it will be 'flush' with the hardwood floors...it is fully a one inch thick piece of glass and I estimate the weight at 250 lbs!

Here is where it is going to go....the same size 36" square hole is going to be cut right behind this one (if your eyes are good you can see the floor is already cut). Here an additional matching stair set will wind down into the garage. We are going to make an invisible trap door in the floor. In inclement weather, enter through the garage!

Another cool project underway...we are 'skinning' the side entry plain Jane front door with rusting steel....here, the pieces are all ready to go. Gonna throw on a big commercial push code pewter entry handle...it will all make sense soon :)

Ok...rolling along again. First the metal door 'skinning', now complete. This was a relatively easy and inexpensive but great result project., this door is now VERY heavy! Still addressing the door handle/knob, the threshold, and those blinds are going in the garbage.

The glass window in the floor project has been amazingly perfect. For starters the glass is actually 1 3/4 inch thick, burly....remember it is bullet proof.

Here is the frame that will suspend the glass in the floor...the steel frame sits 5/8 inch high...same thickness as the hard wood floors, seamless and relatively easy install.

From underneath in the garage...glass rests on the ledge you see built up on the inside of the metal frame, exactly 1 3/4 inch below...all flush when installed :)

Can't freakin wait to wrap this up!

No crime area, just turning out 'heavy duty'.

  23. Did you do the tile work? That's going to be a neat place.
