Let's just agree to disagree. The 355 market is so segmented. 95s vs 99s, F1s Vs 6 speeds, Spiders Vs, GTBs and GTSs... Fact is, many buyers want the 95 or 99 fixed roof cars. Furthermore, those cars are much more are desirable than the rest, and cannot be grouped into the 355 value equation.

You're a new 355 owner. These cars cost a lot to service. The good news is, is that if they are fixed with the right parts, those service costs no longer exist. I'm glad you're a philanthropist but for me, I am not paying for the next guy.

I've always said, there are two price points in the 355 market... cars with known issues which have been addressed, and cars on ebay.

Your car looks amazing. Fix the seat wear, get a belt service done, and you've got a 58-62k car easily.

Or, reduce the price by 1k and sell me your wheel with mine as a trade.

Every buyer is different. Some mods appeal to some and some don't. Very unlikely that you will find a buyer that finds every mod you have done appealing.

Just as an example if I was looking at your car i would see the following just based on what I, and I alone like.

    CF sills: +
    CF door mirrors: no pref
    tint: -
    challenge grill: +
HID: big + to a big - depending on what was done
    subwoofer: big -
springs: big + if alignment and balance was done after. If not it is another expense pending after purchase.
360 wheel: big -, i really hate it in the 355
Stock is almost always best unless the mods are widely accepted as reliability mods or top notch performance mods.

I also think you are selling the car a little short pricing wise.

I think the true answer to the question at the end of the day, as an economics professor of mine would have put it, "it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it." :)

As others have stated here, this is quite a broad market - prices ranging easily 30k depending upon rareness, color combinations, transmission styles, mechanical and cosmetic condition, mileage, modifications, body type, etc. Aside from the specs, though, I really believe a lot of the sale price has to do with the specific buyer. Two buyers may disagree by 10k on the same car. The same buyer, with two identical cars, may decide to spend 10k more on one just because it's the right color... for him/her. Lots of subjective stuff when it comes to an emotional purchase like a Ferrari versus a utilitarian Honda Civic, whose value tends to be much more easily predicted just based upon generic drivers.

So, I guess I'm a big believer in just letting the market sort this one out. If someone is willing to give you $70k for your car, it's worth $70k. If they're only willing to give you $45k, it's worth $45k. And I think this is exactly why we see everyone initially list high, hoping for the high-bidder to step up and then work their way down from there. So in reality you might say it's not very meaningful for anyone to tell you what your car is worth unless they're making an offer. :)

Honestly I don't want to sell my 355, it's just the most impractical thing I currently own And I could use the money that's tied up in it for some other stuff. That's the reason I want it gone fast when I do decide it's time to list her.
The car brings me great joy along with bits of frustration from time to time. The only car I think could ever make me as happy would be a 458.
I will know for certain if I'm going to sell within the next couple weeks and then I roll the dice.

Luke, eBay is a fantastic marketing tool and to assume cars listed there are less quality cars is just wrong.

And I agree with Eric, worth is what someone will pay. Again, show me the list of cars in the last 6 months selling with a 7 or 8, and show me where it's above .1% because it's not.

If you have the stock parts to go with the car, value should be unaffected. You would probably end up ahead by returning the car completely to stock and selling the aftermarket parts separately, though.

If the car has fresh belts, I would think 50k would be the sweet spot betweenquick sale and good money. F1 GTS is the rarest 355...

Ebay is NOT a proper overall indicator. Ebay is where cars go for sale when nobody connected to the car will buy it. I know if im selling my red tan, 95 GTB, 6 speed that there are buyers lined up for it. ALL of the good cars never make it to market and therefor the prices are not known and are much higher and do start with a 6 or 7. Ebay is an indicator of the low end price only. I know of many looking for a fine examples of a 95 GTB and cant find one. They are looking for well maintained cars not ones with fabspeed headers, 360 wheels, or cars that have service done with engine in or ones that were maintained at Jacks Sunoco. Those are the cars that go for 40-45

Really hard to get a straight answer. Sellers often think they got too little or don't want others to know they didn't get top dollar, buyers the opposite. Opinions abound, facts are rare. 33 replies, not one "I sold for.." or "I bought for..." Okay, maybe 1 or 2.

OK, well, I'll be the first to publicly disclose this:

I paid $68K for my car. 1998 F1 GTS with 9870 miles. Major done at Algar with new tires and some stickies done 252 miles prior (nearly a $12K bill that was discounted to $10K).

The only issues with my car are / where:

    1) One Ignition key and one fob, no PIN (Rectified for $1200)
    2) F1 LED light segment blown (common) (Rectified for $200)
    3) Passenger Airbag needed recovering (common) (Rectified for $325)
    4) Sticky rear bonnet trim and defroster vent caps, I also did other parts that did not need it now ($1050)
    5) Black car with swirl scratches (I'm doing paint correction myself for $400 in tools / supplies)

In summary, I have a near mint, low mile, well serviced car (I'm the 3rd owner) for $71,175 after I addressed the minor issues. And, I've got 1 of 529 cars made, probably less since not all 529 are black.

I found mine local so I saved $1000 in shipping. Mine was not on ebay, it was on AutoTrader. To discount a car on ebay is just foolish.

$71k. That sounds right for a GTS F1.

Did you buy the car through EBay, or was it used as an advertising tool which allowed you to negotiate independently?

Perhaps I should rephrase my stance on ebay...

Not all cars that appear on ebay are bad. The issue I have, is that rarely do transactions take place on ebay. Most good cars are bought by savvy buyers, (like yourself) outside of eBay.

The result, is that the cars with issues, with no reserve (for a reason) and low BINs (also for a reason) as the only examples of "sold 355 inventory".

Buyers run a completed listing search on ebay, see a few cars that sold for 45k through these means, and suddenly, we get threads like this where people think that all 355s are worth 45-55k because "that's what they saw on eBay".

    Fair?

Luke, as I said, mine was on AutoTrader not ebay. While I agree the transation rarely takes place on ebay, it's a way to get the car to market.

The $71K in total I spent on my car was top dollar and in my search I knew I could get what I wanted for $70K. Under 10K mile cars fetch the absolute most money and I did not need to spend $80K to get it.

You overpaid for that car 10K ;)

    Just kidding.

If your car is 71K - then a perfect 95 sub 10K mile car is 90K!

The riseing tide brings up all boats.

In Feb-Mar there were at least three or four transactions between 45 and 49K with great 30K mile cars, all services done, etc. One was a GTS 6spd, one a B 6spd and I forget about the others...

The buyers are on this board; I know the prices because I was seriously interested in those cars and followed-up on the sales.

If anybody wants a pristine 95 red/tan with 8K miles and up-to-date services (no valve guides redone however) for 55K PM me (no relation to seller).

Last major done in 2009. I know, I asked the seller. A little sneaky; he gave a date on everything done except the major, on which he gave a mileage since.

I was watching that car. I expected it to go higher than 46 at the end. Still, a 6 owner car, which brings down the price.

And a seller with 0 feedback who had been on eBay since 2009. These are the type of sales that you really need to do your homework on. Six owners none of the descriptions of condition are exceptional, all good to very good.

I would never buy this car sight unseen.

Well, of course, everyone has to start somewhere. I've been on eBay for a while, but have rarely bought or sold.

I'm not trying to endorse or defend the seller; I have no idea about him/her or the car. Just speaking generally.

You do realize that you are arguing with a guy who is on his second 355 since 2006 when the AVERAGE price was 80K right? Had one of the best looking and optioned 355s ever and never spouts off like some know it all newbie... Right?

I've owned 3 of these and they are my favorite. I've clocked about 80k miles in 5 years of ownership and would say the following:

If you have a clean car and you want to sell NOW! $45-50K
If you have a rough car or title issue car and want to sell NOW! $38-45K

If you can wait for the right buyer for a clean car $60-80K
If you can wait for the right buyer for a rough car $45-48K MAX

    IMO
