The major on my car was documented 10 months and 500 miles old. To me that was "fresh" and worth paying for. Others I vetted had 2000miles and 3 years on the major. In my mind that was not fresh and needed to be discounted.

The provenance of ownership meant a lot to me. I looked at a bunch of cars virtually that were being sold by indi dealers that had carfax histories of ownership whereby the car had travelled more in its life than I had. 8 owners from CA to TX to IL to NY to FL. I automatically was turned off to even pursuing those cars. There is a lot of subjectivity to that criteria and putting a dollar value on it may be erroneous but it is worth something to me. My car had three PO and the person I bought it from only owned it for 2 years and it always lived in Ohio. For whatever reason that gave me some peace of mind. Is that worth real money? It was to me but may not be to someone else.

Feeling warm and fuzzy about something like this was important to me and ultimately I couldnt pull the trigger on cars that were 3000 miles away with sketchy ownership lineage and to many questions. They may have been good deals but I wasn't flipping the car and I didn't want buyers remorse. That was worth real money to me also.

Honest cars with honest lineage that come from good homes will be attractive to buyers that are willing to pay up for the warm and fuzzies. IMHO.

FWIW, the spider vs GTB / GTS markets are 2 very different things.

    To some.

I was dead-set on a Berlinetta. Test drove my Spider and the rest was history. I am so glad I did not go with the hardtop.

i think it'll move, but 15 minutes. not so sure. lotta nice 355s around. i don't know who would pay 65k+ for one unless it was a true collector car with <5k miles on it and full maintenance/repair work. 65k is getting into modena territory.

Zero comparison. A 355 is no 360... meaning, the 355 is way nicer IMO

Agreed, if you are already up there spending $65k, personally I can convince myself putting another $10-15k isn't a big deal to get the next gen model.
But personally much prefer the exterior of 348/355 over 360 nor 430.

but to an objective buyer, a newer more modern car with much cheaper service makes it a more attractive proposition. i love the 355 it's one of my favorite ferrari's ever so no hatred coming from me. just being objective.

Yes I looked at 360-430 but they were just too darth vader for my style. I like a car with classic styling.
Not many Ferraris I like except for a few old ones and possibly the 458 as its starting to grow on me. Maybe next summer I will get add one.

The current issue of Evo magazine has an article that supports this in Europe the article states that the sale price of the 355 exceeds the 360. I agree with you as well, I would never trade my 355 for a 360, 458, well that is another story.

Agree with rmani (do love the 355 myself.. ) for the buyer who isn't specifically inclined. One guy on the 360 forum upgraded to a 360 because an F1 was just a little more than the 348 he was looking at. At the very least a buyer is going to use the line "But I can get a 360 for this money" to drive down the asking price.

That tactic has not worked with the Porsche 993 vs. 996. I think people will gravitate to the car they want be it a 355 or a 360. I don't begrudge any one their choice but the design and the driving experience is apples and oranges in my opinion.

Agree.. and similar parallels are present with that analogy. Although I contend that if the IMS issue wasn't imploding engines in 10% of the 996 and 986 fleet.. values of the 9x6 series would be higher as well.

    We agree.

Newer doesn't always equal more valuable in the Ferrari world.

No doubt. The spiders are so much fun. However, the market is saturated with them, and as a result, there is a signifigant difference in prices.

Who thought that a Dino would ever be more valuable than a 'real' modern Ferrari ?

My engine had to be completely rebuilt due to valve overheating problems.
    h
Had to wait 8 months for the cylinder liner which officially are not available any more from Ferrari. They were custom built by Mahle in Stuttgart/Germany.

Rebuilding the engine was 30 k € and the repair of my 355 GTB will be finished within the next two weeks.

After the birth of our first child three weeks ago I wanted to sell the car and maybe switch to a 456 or even 612.

To my surprise I was told that the rebuilt engine will not increase resale value since most potential buyers only go for low mileage and a fully stamped service book.

Compared to two years ago, prices have dropped by at least 10 % in Germany.

As much as I would like to see prices for 355s going up I do not see the trend.

430s surprisingly holding their value, the rest of the line steadily getting cheaper.

Might take another 5-10 years for the 355s to gain more acceptance.

996 was the bastard child line of the 911. 355 to 360 is not even in the same universe comparing 993 to 996. 996 was darn right ugly with no fender flares. The vast majority of people love the 360 styling. Many regard it as one of the prettiest Ferraris ever made.

The vast majority? I doubt that.

The "jellybean" is the prettiest Ferrari ever made? I seriously doubt that too.

I could buy a 360 tomorrow. But why? The 355 is much prettier, classier, unique and stylistic.

If someone gave me a 360 I would have it listed for sale before the truck showed up to deliver it.
