No BS, you could offer me $164K (The out-the-door price my car was new) and I would NOT even remotely consider selling it : )
Latest Octane Ben Cartwright at Nick Cartwright Specialist Cars in the UK "Prices for Ferrari 355s are now surpassing those for Ferrari 360s. The 355 seems to be coming of age, while values of the 360 keep slipping back as it gets squeezed between the arguably more desirable 355 and the more sophisticated F430." "The tricky bit is finding good examples to sell, because for every ten cars we look at, there's usually only one or two we'd consider buying in. The 355 can be a fickle car too, with emissions equipment, sensors and ECU's all potentially causing problems." "If I was in the market for a classic Ferrari today, I'd strongly recommend a late 328 because their mechanically bombproof and easy to maintain. The 348 still seems undervalued to us too; we've just sold a yellow 348 spider with 18,000 miles for £30,000." "We're finding our cars increasingly being bought by customers in the UK , although we we also sell a fair few to ex-pats in Hong Kong who plan on returning to Britain at some point n the future. There's certainly more interest in used Ferrari's now than 12 months ago; we put it down to the price of new Ferrari's being so high, meaning more people want to buy used instead." Thought this was good information. No I'm not worried about cars as an investment... But those wanting one should buy now or pay more later. Robb
I ordered a 360 F1 when I took delivery on my 1998 355 F1 GTS from Ferrari of Los Gatos. When my brand new 2000 360 F1 was delivered, I hated the drive by wire and sold the 360 within 5 days because the computer was fighting me when I drove it like my 355. I still own my 355 and plan on keeping it for life. I also have a 2004 575M, the F1 system is so much better than the 360 had. No complaints on it's drive by wire whatsoever. I agree 100%. FYI. A personal chat I had with the taxdr. Who owns an Enzo a 458 spider a 599gto and us taking delivery on an f12... On introducing myself to him he asked what car I had. I told him a 355 spider. He said , the 355 is my favorite ferrari. He went in to comment on its classic styling etc. This was as we were standing behind his Enzo. He did say of course it can't compare mechanically with that , etc. That is a verbatim quote! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Late last year, there was a 1995 Rosso Corsa / Black Interior 6 speed Manual GTS with 15k mi on EBAY "buy it now" $60k. I was the first guy to call him. I was more than happy to pay that price although I had doubts about a GTS. The market will command a premium for a GTS because of its rarity over the other two options. Spiders can definitely be had at the lower end of the price spectrum. Guess what... no matter how many times I contacted the guy, he wasn't motivated to sell to me. Why? Because every other interested buyer was offering more. At the end of the day, I really think he sold the car for $65k or more. Well sorted 6-speed Manual GTB's/GTS' with black interiors will command a premium over the rest from what I've seen. People still buy 360s?
355s are worth what a buyer will pay and a seller will take. Every sale is different. I just today wrote a check for a 95 spider, Blu Swaters over tan, one owner (if you believe carfux), 19k miles, excellent cosmetic condition, no sticky, cats replace and cat ECUs replace a few years ago, everything works correctly, major completed 2 weeks ago (as part of the sale) including new guides, new valves (a couple looked bad so all were replaced), new tappets, cam seals, tensioners, belts, plugs, filters.....rear main seal... records since new. All books but tools/case missing. More than $55k, less than $60k. Last year I backed out of a deal at $55k for a 99 F1 spider with under 6.5k miles, 2 owners, but it needed a major, and some other things that would have pushed to to $65k or $70k.
Nick and Ben know their stuff. I bought my F1 GTS from them and it has been faultless. Here in Oz as in the UK asking prices for good 355s are significantly higher than for 360s. Very good ones are routinely advertised in the $150k plus bracket. There is one - admittedly exceptional - car advertised in the UK now for £85k! And there have been several GTS and GTB cars advertised recently around the £70k mark. Any given car is only worth what someone will pay for it but with 355s there is a large amount of variance between average examples and very good ones, and an extremely good car in a desireable spec can realistically be priced at nearly double an ordinary one. And for some people if it represents the car that they want they will be quite prepared to pay for it.
Sorry. This one had drifted on and off course enough I thought it was lost all together. Carry on. I'll behave.
