it probably sounds great, I've seen this done once before, a british guy IIRC .....uses the stock crank and zero gap bearings clamped in to span between the 2 cut halves, and the block welded together, with resulting minimal crank off-centre variance ....cool idea indeed! even using the left-overs to make LS V4 engines from is cool, very Lancia Fulva like, and would be awesome for a kart or something small like that. There was an article (in R&T or similar) many years ago, with a Falconer V12 SBC engine put into a C4 Corvette, with something like 600+ hp ...but I think this 8.9L could well surpass that figure, even with stock LS6 heads in place ...they will have to make a custom billet cam, but that's not impossible, some adjustable push-rods to compensate for any engine/crank variation, etc ....awesome! This photo only just came out May 1, so I don't know he's actually got a running engine "yet", but looking forward to hearing more about it!
Ryan Falconer will still build you a V12. Very cool. I think there are aldo some V16 diesel engines made from joinging two V8s. Sort ofmakes you think it would not be too hard for Gm to build a SBC v12 for a uber caddy.
actually there were plans - or at least postulating - to build a Cadillac version LS V16 production engine, JM2 could probably better speak to that? - Bob Lutz wanted to base his new Cunningham design on that - or V12 variation? engine - and a running version was used in the concept Cadillac16, though IIRC was a bespoke engine, not just two LS2 engines welded together, but yet still was based on the LS2, the LS series of engines being light years ahead of the old classic SBC means power would be pretty amazing! Years ago I watched a demo of one of their first successful V12's made from the 215 Buicks. They were hoping to sell it to boat builder to put into a replica of a "gentleman's racer" from the '30's. The demo was very cool; they started and ran the motor on a laptop (pretty advanced stuff for an audience of woody boaters!!). It was run up to 7500 on the test stand, though they said their dyno runs were over 9,000 rpms at that time. I was really lusting for it, but it was a "mule" they did not want to sell; not enough hours on the concept yet. Also, that motor was all about rpm, with no tuning for torque yet, so wrong idea for a boat. I like this one even more.....
I would imagine they are making a new billet crank for this LS V12, so one should be able to get a stroker spec throw made, but even if stock stroke of a LS2 6.0L the V12 resulting would be at 9.0L ....that would make tons of torque for a boat, and with the very tunable GM ECU possible, it could be tuned for more low RPM torque a boat engine would need extrapolating the LS2 V8 numbers, of 400hp/400ft.lbs., even at stock tune the V12 should make 600/600 minimum, not bad!
