    Very Beautiful.

Too bad that one also got fitted with a replica P4 body.

    Different car than 0858.

    RIP Pierre.

Some of his cars have traded since his death. Wouldn't amaze me if 0860 came to market.

$40m at least I reckon if it does which is the price I would put 0858 up to when it's finished if nobody buys the ongoing project, given today's market conditions.

    No way man, no way.

You could buy a 250LM AND potentially a 250GTO for that money. That's 2 more streetable cars than a P4.

Times are tough and getting tougher, unless this car is going to be sold to the Middle East, but my understanding is they prefer new cars not old relics.

As much as I love the 250 LM and 250 GTO the P4 is the Daddy I'm afraid. Yes, that's how I'd value a P4. At the same as a 250 GTO + 250 LM.

David Clarke had no problem with P4 0856 being streetable.

I did say given today's market conditions with reference to the Classic Car Market.

A 250GTO will always command a higher price than a P4 in equivalent quality.

But you are not the target market.

The reason a 250GTO is the Daddy has only something to do with its history and being a great car. Most of it is because of its usability and the fact that wives will travel in them, etc.

Nobody is going to put down many millions for a car that you can't use unless you want to purchase it as an investment only ... and that is why $5m is more likely.

Funny you should have this view as a previous owner of #0858 definitely didn't. He loved #6321 and had a lot of success with it, even in the same event.

But opinions are just that ... :)

This wives and usability thing is stretching things I think. By that reasoning a Toyota Previa would be worth more than a GTO as you can get all the kids, Grandma and the shopping in that too. :) I can't think there'd be a better bird puller than a P4. It's just such an absolutely beautiful thing. An absolute work of art.

I assume that practically all GTO owners have DDs as well.
    ;)

Even at this end of the market utility adds to value. Here the utility is the ability to use the cars the many exciting and exclusive non-track events doable in a GTO but not a P4.

Exactly and the wife can go along in her fancy clothes and drink champagne ... and thus be part of a social occassion.

We should ask Jim how many times his wife had gone in his GT40, Lola and Ferrari Prototypes ... I'd be surprised if it was ever.

Most don't buy these cars to race, but to attend events. Jim doesn't race his anymore. Okay these people are rich enough that they can put them in a truck and follow along but ...

BTW To my wife the Previa should be worth more. Oh we had one for 8 years. Wife and family loved it, and I remember it with fondness too. Best all rounder I've ever owned.

When I mention to her that somebody paid millions for a mere car, she thinks it simply rediculous and a complete and utter waste of money.

Cars to 99% of the population are to move people around, nothing more and the Previa does that better than most.

Yes, I'm sure you're right. The extra value in the P4 comes from its unmatched beauty, glamour, rarity, higher class, extra speed, the added sense of occasion from the very fact that it's even more of a race car and LESS practical than say, even a GTO. Like a very beautiful woman is always harder work, but so worth the extra effort.

I understand fully. The market thinks otherwise though and that's part of what's being discussed.

Exactly, but this is why the P4 is such a conundrum because it was built when racing cars were becoming more and more specialised.

The GTO was still when cars were multi purposed.

So the purists, who are the traditional market, won't be hot on the car in question and neither will the social crowd.
Who does that leave to drop 25 Mil. ?

Meg's been in all of them. She navigated 0846,002,Dino Competizone and P 4/5 through 800 miles of the Targa Florio. I'd say P 4/5's her favorite.

Meg and I also did The Crescent Classic in P 4/5.

Veronica likes 002 a lot and Jesse likes Dino Competizione which he drove on the Targa Florio as well.

I enjoy events but I enjoy driving more.

Carb 0854 is a LOT easier to drive than Mechanical FI 0846. On a track 0846 is fine but on the road it's a full time job.

About 4 people total I reckon and the most likely person to purchase #0858 has already stated his max price and it's many times below that rediculous price (my opinion that the prices is rediculous).

Thinking further about this. The only way the current owner of #0858 could make decent money out of it is if more than one car resulted and could be sold ... otherwise they really need to prepare themselves for a considerable loss IMO.

Any estimate as to how much the car will owe them once the work is done?
