Does anyone know if you can adjust the bass, treble, and fade. For what it matters, I have the upgraded hi/fi, wi/fi or whatever they call it.

Thanks, I just printed that. I have not been on the 458 board but for a few months. Did not know that thread existed.

I have the premium sound system as well. It has electrostatic speakers. The dealer where I bought the car told me there was no adjustment for bass, treble and fade.

Let me know if you find out differently.

Will do. Mine is a 2010 and yours is a 2013 I believe. might be adjustable on mine and not on yours. Will give you an update once I try it.

I have not heard one without hi-fi. 5400.00 is way too much though, it is certainly not worth that. Mine had the option when I bought it, probably will not get it if I order one in the future.

changing the bass or treble in these horrible radios wont make them sound better... i think that a good sounding radio, speakers is the only thing my 458 lacks

The HiFi system is 1.6% the value of the car. Reasonable, in my opinion.

I have the standard (not premium) stereo in my car and it's worse than the stereo in my BRZ. I'm thinking about getting some aftermarket speakers since I got the iPod integration.

You are so right. I tried it today. All of the following works (dealer was wrong):

    Treble
    Bass
    Midrange
Fade (forward, back, right and left)

thanks for the help. I had no idea you had to hold down the middle menu button.

BTW the stereo can be turned up so loud your ears will bleed (and you'll probably go deaf as well).

In my 2010 Coupe I did not get the premium stereo - the speakers rattled and when I complained to my dealer said that that could order parts that would arrive in 6 months so I got a after market amp and speakers installed.
The aftermarket stereo cost almost 5000 dollars and the installer tore down the entire car as I told him to do the install with no holes drilled in the car. They installed the amps in the trunk (front) and built a nifty board so that the amps were flush with the trunk floor.
When they showed me the stock Ferrari speakers it was appalling - they looked like cheap Chinese 10 dollar speakers...
    The problems with aftermarket stereo:
    1. My car developed a rattle on the dash..
    2. The subs of the aftermarket speakers took the little space behind the seats.
    3. Every time something happened with the car the dealer blamed the aftermarket stereo.
    4. I got nothing for the aftermarket stereo when i sold my car and got a spider.
So when I ordered the spider I bought it with the premium stereo - I agree with the statement ' why do you need a stereo on a 458 when the engine is the music' BUT when I do need a stereo the premium stereo is awesome... so if you can afford a Ferrari and you love music then why not order a premium stereo...
    My two cents :)

when the manufacturer's warranty expires, an aftermarket radio/speaker kit will preclude a ferrari extended warranty.
ferrari will not issue an extended warranty on a "modified" car!

Sorry, slightly off-topic.... But does that statement about unavailabilty of extended warranty also apply to integrated radar detector installations such as 9500ci if the only electrical mod is tapping into power? Thanks.

my business partner had experience with the warranty issue concerning an aftermarket sound system.
the sound system in the car he was considering purportedly cost over $20K to install and was not removed when the car was put up for sale.
i have no idea if a simple radar detector would be considered a "modification" of the vehicle.
if so, i assume removal of the radar detector would negate the modification.

Obviously YellowMurci is not a fan of 5.1 surround sound, electrostats, carbon fiber woofers, HiRes music, DVDA or DVDV music discs.

A Universal Disc player, with Surround sound amp, and ultra high-end speakers, with a system that can handle 96k, IMHO $5400 is a great deal for all that, unless you plug in a low-res Ipod then I agree it is a waste. But if you are in to Hi-Res music which I am, it is the best factory sound system I have ever heard, better than my Lexus or Mercedes by a mile. Again, if you are not in to Hi-Res, I can see where someone can be disappointed, but it even plays 44k CDs well, just not as well as DVDA or DVDV:)

In the Bass and Treble thread, hotsauce suggested setting the EQ on your iPod if you hook it up. I just did that, and the difference is startling. I don't have the premium stereo, but it no longer sounds worse than my Subaru.

Interesting thread. I didn't order the premium sound because I had heard it wasn't worth it. When I had my scud, the engine noise (which was awesome) was so loud that at highway speeds I couldn't hear the radio even with the volume turned up to 50 (all the way up).

I think it depends how much you plan on driving the car too. I have not heard the premium system yet but have specced it on my 458. Plan on driving it a lot ie roughly 12000 miles a year. Don't think ill be using it to its max all of those miles and when I want to cruise in it- the best sound system playing some good hi quality music will be a joy to listen to.

i listened to the upgraded unit before ordering my spider.
i thought there wasn't enough improvement to justify the added cost.
