Yep, exactly the same for me here in Houston too. Had the DirecTv DVRs set to always record anything Formula One. I even double it up on another DVR in the house just in case there's a problem with one box.

So there i was. Poured beer. Fired up the theater room. Sat down with the family. Hit play. Immediately saw the celebrating race winner. Pretty awesome. I called DirecTv to let them know I was one of them many affected. At that point it's like calling to say your power is out...they already know.

Same here. What a waste of my time. I looked forward to watching it. What jackasses.

I feel for you guys. I'm still not convinced it wasn't on live somewhere, but if you say so.

The problem of course was it ran way long due to the red flag & SC's. if it had stayed on schedule, you'd have been fine. :(

I was really disappointed by this too.

The problem is that many (most?) of us in the U.S. are depending on NBC now to see the race, and NBC decided to DELAY the broadcast for their own marketing reasons. So of course if the race event is extra long it will spill over into the scheduled recording time. It doesn't take a genius to realize that sporting events are prone to such over-times and it could happen if you plan to air the delayed coverage IMMEDIATELY after the race is supposed to end. They could have delayed it another hour say to avoid that possibility. It's just too bad NBC doesn't show the races live, but I can understand their marketing reasons.

Yep, southern Florida, same deal. On screen directory showed the coverage beginning at 10:30 on NBCSN. Turned it on in time to see the finishers. Fine, fine work NBC!

Hmmm..... I'm Pretty sure someone from Florida posted that it was indeed on live.- not on NBCS but the big boy NBC channel, which is unusual, but not unprecedented. Shame it ran late and spoilt it for you guys, but again I think it's a little unfair to blame NBC.

Did Houston preempt the race on NBC to provide news coverage of the San Antonio flooding?
Or was your DVR looking for it on the Fox channel it ran on, last year?

The schedule was a pre-race on NBCSN, then the race live on NBC (broadcast channel), then post-race on NBCSN, followed by the race replay on NBCSN.

But the race had two safety car sessions and a red flag, so it went overtime.

So the race was still going on live when NBCSN went on for the post-race show.
So they carried the end of the race, the podium, and the post race.
NBC cut off before the interviews.

When they have more experience with F1, they might do like Fox used to do: run the replay later, to give them time to edit the race down to fit in the time slot, instead of carrying the entire over-length race during the replay.

I think I prefer this approach -- running the post-race, the replay, and the GP2 in sequence, so they can cover the entire race without having to drop racing laps. But it does mean you have to be careful about how you run the recording, if you don't want spoilers.
But it's racing. It's not just who won, but how.
Besides: It's Monaco. All the action is at the back. ;)
My only complaint is that they spent too much time showing the parade in the front, and not enough time showing the action where there was any.

There are a few more races scheduled to be aired on the main NBC channel.

I did have to fiddle with the DVR, a few days back, as it won't let me change the channel on the timer. So I had to delete the old Fox channel timer from last year, and create a new timer for the NBC channel, once the coverage was on the schedule.

Basically I'm a child who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas. The Monaco race is my favorite TV event of the year. Back when there was a US open wheel pro series, a Memorial weekend Sunday with Monaco and the real Indy 500 was heaven.

So, yes I blame NBC for ruining everything and taking away my only reason to live.

I am going to boycott NBC and NBCSN for two weeks.

    :(

    :D

    Great post.

Seriously, I've never really followed Indy. Back then, it was obviously live, but did they have Monaco too? The whole thing? Or just highlights?

    Cheers,
    Ian

I believe Monaco has been broadcast in its entirety since the late 80s, when I started watching regularly, but perhaps someone will chime in with better information. I remember F1 on ESPN 2 - maybe ESPN before that?

I followed CART many years ago, before the split. It was a good show, with a few races I always enjoyed, like the airport race - Cleveland? Detroit? Can't remember, but the wide track encouraged aggression. I have not followed US open wheel in at least a decade.

    OK, thanks for that.

The cognoscenti may not like it, but it has always been, and remains, the 'jewel in the crown'. May not be the best race, the jockeys will claim 'its just another 25 points', blah, blah.

Right up until they win it...... ;)

Everyone knows its the only race that doesn't pay Bernie a fee, right.......

I vaguely recall some pretty good stuff too. :(

    Cheers,
    Ian

    No issues here with directv.

Race was shown live on NBC. Followed by post race on NBCSHD.

HEY!, you Big City Dwellers I was in the Middle of nowhere and I caught it on the regular NBC.

For those of you that missed it the accidental footage of the possibly Coked-out Bikini-Clad Super-Models baring all in the Pits was really in bad taste as my tongue was on the Floor.

Hot Chicks, Ferraris, Yachts and flying carbon-fiber was a lot for me to take-in, recovery will be slow..Cya in Austin!!

BBC's iPlayer has a 1h30m Highlight program that will cover most of the race. You need a VPN to view it as they block IPs outside the UK. PM me if you need a good suggestion.

Your best alternative is to download a torrent of the race.

    Very true.

However, and I haven't checked, I suspect here in the States the "new" NBC Sports app may well allow the same replay without needing to play any VPN games (?)

It's a shame there is nowhere you can get the feed from Raikkonen's on-board camera for the laps that followed his final pit stop.

EDIT: Actually the BBC included on-board of three of the passes right at the end of their highlight reel. Bottas basically let him past probably thinking he was a leading car. The other two moves on Gutierrez and Hulkenberg were just great driving by Kimi. Shame he had to lose so many points to Vettel in the Championship thanks to the silly move by Perez.
