Approx. 3 weeks ago I purchased a 94 348 Spider. After spending some time checking fluid levels plus a general inspection sorting problems with the windows, door locks, radio, mirrows, and removing an old security system that had been cobbled in I pulled it out of the garage for the first time.

I've owned several Porsches, Alfa's, and British cars. NONE of these even approach the experience of a owning or driving a Ferrari. The exhaust note, the road feel, the acceleration is exhilirating to say the least. I particularly like the non power steering and do not find it front heavy as other posts have indicated.

Somewhat uncomfortable is the attention a Ferrari generates. Waves, cameras, yells seem to come from every where. One man even asked to film me as I accelerated from a restaurant I have lunch at daily.

I plan to enjoy the 348 until late fall. At that time I'm planning a major plus a few other assorted minor problems.

I too purchased a 348 not too long ago. I've spent a number of years in the auto industry and had a privilege of driving a number of high-end performance cars including several new offerings from Ferrari. I must say that a 348 is as close to a perfect driver's car as I have driven. The looks of it generate a lot of attention in my neck of the woods but lots of smiles and waves. I think people generally perceive it as a driver's enthusiast classic vs. a rich guy toying around.

I wish the fit and finish was higher to be honest - lots of FIAT parts bin parts that I recognize but as long as the engine is bulletproof ( which I understand this is the case) I can live with the gremlins. Let's call fixing the little stuff bonding with our cars.
Looking forward to lots of miles of spirited motoring.

Welcome and I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. I have had a 1994 348 Spyder for almost 6 mos and it is still a thrill for me to walk into the garage and see it. And then to hear that exhaust note and to drive it well its all I ever wanted and the longer I own it the more I enjoy it. I took the car to Ferrari Concorso llast week and saw all kinds of Ferraris and yet I am perfectly satisfied with the one I have. I intend to take care of it and I believe it will always take care of me. Good luck and enjoy your car. They are truly great.

congratulation on your purchase. i have my 348 Spider for more than 13 years now and i still enjoy every drive. i liked my 308GT4 too and my great 456 MGT is much better built than the 348 Spider, but the pure driving fun in the red, loud, open car is unmatched.

    have fun with your Spider!

Congrats! You'll fall deeper in love with her over time...and trust me when I say, "every time you sit down in the seat, put the key in the ignition, start her up, listen to that billowing exhaust sing at you, and engage the clutch firing her off at 7500rpm's ...well it always feels like a FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE".

Enjoy your car and may you be able to continue adding to your stable! And for what it's worth join your local FCA. There's a ton of value in it and tells you about meets and road trips with the club.

PICS!!!! WE WANT TO SEE PICS!!!!

I total get what you are talking about. The first time was almost too much. The only experience equal to it was the first time I flew an airplane off the ground with only me in it. I've owned one Jag and three Porsches, but none of them are like that red car in my garage. Now the trick is to keep it running well and in good condition.

    Happy motoring.
