Okay guys this thread is to post links to do-it-yourself threads for the 348, as suggested by Grant in his thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/405839-new-sticky-repairs.html If you have posted any instructional threads please add the link to them here. NoDoubt has also compiled a TON of info on his site. www.my348.com Please keep your posts limited to links, so we don't get the thread clogged with questions and answers. It will help make future searches much easier.

That's awesome Ernie not to much into the technical aspects of fchat but can you save a thread somewhere or maybe a the administrators could turn your post into a sticky. I think I might have to buy a 348 just to hang with you guys.

Agreed this would be an excellent sticky for the 348/355 forum, people could PM the DIY link to you, if it looks worthy you could then add it to the list. Maybe even sort them by system for ease of finding them? It would be nice if we could do the same with part/rebuild/interchange. I would be glad to help in any way possible.

All us 348 owners owe Paul Hill a debt of gratitude for his upgraded tensioner bearings for the 348. With his bearings, the sale of a 348 is enhanced. Those of us who keep our cars for more than one major service are left with a decision. To replace the Hill bearings or not? I've chosen to see if they will last for two services. Mine now have just over 30k on them. Stay tuned. A bonus is that the bearing in the tensioner is easily replaceable, a significant savings over the price of a new set. Each tensioner carries two bearings. I wanted to use the same bearing he does, so I took the number off the bearing of a used set. It's an NSK bearing, number 6005VV. You'll notice the number on the bearing is 6005V, but the nice guy at the bearing house informed me that it's actually a VV, as two V's indicates a sealed bearing, which it is. Four, enough to rebuild both tensioners, will cost you about $80. Buy yourself a pair of snap-ring pliers to remove the snap-rings retaining the bearings. Drive out the inner sleeve, then drive out the bearing from the roller, using a press or a hammer and appropriate sized sockets. Reverse the process. VOILA! New Hill tensioner bearings under $100.

Thanks for this information. I'm planning to perform a major on my 348 in the near future. The last major 16K miles / 3 years ago. How can I tell if the existing bearings are Hill in which case I' ll follow your direction above. Thanks again.
