I m really happy to see so many cool people here who share so much about their cars and stories... it's really great! I am hoping to get some valuable advices here. i am struggling whether to pull the trigger to buy my first Ferrari... used or new.. but the only reason I like to have one is I like the look of it and this seems to be the next logical item I should get to reward myself.. but other issues... I have no interest in speed and performance (I did drive fast cars 997 turbo before but that did not interest me), no interest to collect cars, no interest to appreciate the brand history or whatever, no interest to maintain cars (I always get so upset when my car breaks down for any reason), no interest for track days or any drive without purpose and finally I am very concerned with safety .. so based on these facts, am I suitable to own such a car? And if I do get one, should i get a used one that potentially creates a lot of problems which I would hate to handle.. a new one, apart of newer look, could also have fewer issues.. but it could be a waste for me as I might get bored with it very quickly..
What I can say is that I can't find easy to anyone to get bored for a brand new F458. If you only are searching for a good-looking car then you'll get it for sure on a F458. And do not worry about reliability. New Ferraris are fantastic in all forms! Only expensive! Best
I am pretty sure everyone has heard of the F458 fire issue, whether you are a car fan or not.. why the defensiveness and hostility? why would someone suggest me a Honda?? if I am not a Ferrari fan, I wouldn't come here for advices.. I was just hoping for some honest info from people here which I can't get from local dealer .. it's a major expense... it's nothing wrong to be cautious..
Everything can burn. Even water if you put elementary K or Na in it! Its wise to be cautious of course. Thats why Ive advised you to get a late version! After your first question scenario, if you do not want to see what your question really translates and prefer to show yourself so sensitive, Ill quit!
yes.. .everything can burn. indeed.. Thanks for all the inputs.. i still don't know what i said that upset u guys.. maybe a Honda is a better choice for me... thanks for the valuable insights
Since you have asked for advice and being that the only thing that interests you in a ferrari are its looks, I would suggest you don't need to spend $300k. Try looking for a good looking and reliable car in the $30-50K market.
A Ferrari is not a logical purchase. You buy it because you want it, not because you need it. Why do you want one? You eliminated several common reasons, but you asked so there must be something there that you like.
yes its look is pretty much the only reason.. even if I get it, I will probably drive it once a week or something (need 4-seaters most of the time)..
I had a 2010 458 coupe. It was one of the first into this country as well as one of the first 1250 built. The cars in this first batch had a glue in the rear fender well which could catch fire. All cars were fixed free of charge, of course and no other fire issues exist. If you happen to look at a 2010, the records will show if this fix was done. With only 4 posts on this website, and with the number of "jokers" that post odd threads, I am afraid the wording of yours may be striking this chord with many here. Best
Listen, you enter a Ferrari-forum what is full with entusiasts and fans of this fantastic brand. You don't give any information about you and your actual cars (your personal information is empty). You write that you are not interested in any of those facts what are the reasons for us to buy such a car. You are really wondering about strange answers (just strange for you, not for us)? And now you are not able to value this answers? Take the Honda! Regards - Webber45
I bought my first Ferrari (Ferrari FF) at age 57 as a bucket list item. I'm 6'2" at 330 lbs and a 458 is too low (hit my head getting in) and ergonomics are too tight, so not a consideration of that model although I think it's quite attractive. I'm not a track guy and don't go to local cars and coffee (just too early to get up on Saturday morning). I use my FF 5-7 days per week year-round so it's my daily driver. If you want to try the brand, I would definitely advise keeping within current series of vehicles for warranty purposes. Dave
Yes that's actually why I am looking at a 2009 612 .. It looks good, can still continue warranty, relatively comfortable ride, low mileage, 4 seats, and reasonable cost. But it's a v12, is that even more demanding in terms of driving skill and harder to control and more maintenance issues? 458 is gorgeous but maybe it's not good for dd. ff is of course nice but too expensive.. Btw, I am not used to share personal specifics on forums. Ad I didn't think it was important too as I am just asking for some casual opinion. But I am genuinely asking for advice and the only way to get helpful answers is at least I have to tell u my real preferences and situation.
V12,V8,V6,V4,V2 they are all the same, the further you push on the accelerator the faster you go! So why the concern?
go for the 458! as soon as you drive it you will be hooked and instantly care about all the things you mentioned above that you were not interested in
A Toyota Camry meets all your requirements. Based on your post here this would be your best choice. Four seats, dependable with little to no maintenance. The allotment of Ferraris is rather limited so if you went with one you would be taking it away from someone who really appreciates its beauty and performance. Not trying to be sarcastic but practical in your case.
this is the most amazing thread. If you want good looks get a Bentley an Aston Martin, Maserati or Jaguar. Most are lots cheaper than an Fcar. If you want passion get a Ferrari.
Let me get this straight. You want strangers to talk you into getting a 458, yet you really don't want one? And you're considering a 612 but worried it would be too hard to controll a V-12? This place just keeps getting stranger by the day.
Maybe the op seems srange because english isnt first language. Anyway to try and help without sarcasm. Since style is subjective, its impossible to tell you if you should get ferrari based on looks alone. I bought an e type jag for that reason and it was worth it to me. If ferrari is so beautiful to you that its worth the money to buy one then do it. All modern ferraris are reasonably reliable so pick the one you think is prettiest, get it properly inspected, buy it, and admire it. Good luck
Cayman6616 Listen, you need to just follow your instincts and make your own decisions. All I can share is I have made impulsive buys on 911 Turbos, BMWs, Muscle Cars, and many other fine automobiles. Each one was a great experience. I bought my 2013 F458 in a calculated, order it my way manner, and absolutely love it. If you own it for a month, a quarter, a year, or forever it is a fine machine that you will recall all the way to your dirt nap. Also man to man: if you are so worried about getting "bored with it", I suggest you need to get a reality check because you are way too wrapped up in yourself vs. globally-accepted fine standards in automobiles.
Cayman6616, based on the many concerns you have, I am really not sure you'll enjoy Ferrari ownership. IMO, Ferraris are all extreme in some way. So there's no room for a lukewarm reaction unless you already own many cars, done everything and a Ferrari simply adds a bit more variety. As Phil suggested earlier, if it's really a beautiful car you are seeking, there are other cars that may excite you more and worry you less. The Maserati GranTurismo is amazing, very exclusive, very Italian, very fast, sounds incredible, uses a Ferrari engine, F1 paddles, 2 doors - 4 proper seats and costs a lot less. I agree with 4th_gear. Here's mine, a 2013 GT. The sound is amazing especially in sport manual mode with the exhaust valves open. Not nearly as fast as the 458 but still quick, responsive, but can be very docile when you want. 4 real seats and a nice cargo space. It's my daily driver. It's a beautiful car and get tons of compliments and much less expensive than a 458. Only problem is it isn't a 458!
