Looking for a 355 #8 plug wire..

I'm not sure tape is going to keep the plug wire from arcing to the closest metal object, but it won't hurt to try. I say ditto to Kingborne though. It's a cheap solution and if your car is still running on the original plug wires, you'll be surprised at how much of a difference a set of new ones will make.

 

I have a question that is relevant to this thread.
My 355 has 34k miles.. I know it's about ready to fall apart and be worthless but none the less would I benefit from new plug wires? How do they go bad if not cut or torn or otherwise visibly damaged?

 

I am not so sure the problems will manifest as a visual problem. The get weakened from all the heat of the wires crammed into the valve covers. You may not necessarily see the problem. I know when I have had a bad spark plug extension on other cars I have owned, I could not always see the problem on the extension, but new ones cured the miss.

I'm with M5guy to the OP, if the wires are original, just replace them all.

 

It is quite possible to replace just the wires using the factory terminals (boots). They do come apart. Fat BillyBob has a thread on it somewhere....not rocket science.

 

the 348 comes apart by pulling on it at the boot/wire point. The 355 seems a bit different and I have not tried it. The boot seems to be the expensive portion, not the wires.

 

Yes, but remember to pick up 7mm wire and not 8mm which is the size of most wires and they wont fit through the grommet. I might even have an original set of wires laying around. If the OP pms me later, ill let him know if I have found them.

 

Hi Erik, this is what was going on with my car. I had a very slight burble, like a slight miss, most noticeable at idle. Tried a couple of easy diagnostics (air, fuel, spark right?) and air and fuel were not the problem. So I started tracing spark as mentioned in another thread. My intent was to look at the plugs first, so off came the valley covers and I started pulling plug wires 1 by 1. I found 1 wire where the rubber in the valley area had become brittle and started to crack open. It showed a witness mark of arcing on the valve cover. Then I found another wire with a cracked boot.

Bottom line, after inspecting all the plugs I replaced all the wires with the Kingborne set. Idles great now and there is a slight improvement in the throttle tip-in response. Can't argue with the Kingborne price either. It was a great DIY maintenance deal.

Get a new set. Not worth the trouble if it fails
