I will talk to my dad when he gets home on Wednesday. Maybe we will change to one of the oranges. Which orange type colors were offered in '74? If none other than Rosso dino, we should probably just go with yellow as planned.
Rosso Dino changes a lot depending upon lighting conditions. In brilliant sunshine it looks very orange but as dusk falls it starts to look darker. Here are some photo's of mine which show how it changes. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are so many beautiful, unique, amazing color combos for a Dino. Yellow of course looks great on a Dino but there are oh soooo many of them! If you're going to change the color, why not choose something more original, rare, beautiful and unusual? Fine metallics really work well. There's also fantastic solids. Then there's leather and carpet. Color is emotional so I can really relate! Take advantage of the opportunity! Freeman P.S. These Ferrari color combos are some of my favorites: Dark Blue 275GTB http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/popup.asp?source=/upload/images/_uk/13724/img04pop.jpg http://www.finecars.cc/en/editorial/article/news/50-price-increase-in-just-1-year-ferrari-275-gtb-gtb4-prices-are-still-booming/index.html Blue Metallic 250SWB and Grey Metallic 275GTB http://www.madle.org/evilla11f.htm
I'd totally agree with that. It's worth getting spray out cards done before deciding as some colours look completely different and more vivid in real life compared to photo's or original factory colour swatch books. I've just had 03050 put back into it's original Verde Germoglio and the colour is fantastic in the metal. My bodyshop also did a spray out of Azzuro Dino 2-A-349 for another potential customer and that colour looks incredible and has far more depth than any photo's I've seen of it can convey. It certainly totally changed my mind about this colour when I saw the spray card in person. Image Unavailable, Please Login
John, like I said before you do fantastic work. Just ignore these people who claim it has to be original and just maintained. These cars are 40+ years old and what you are doing to them, in my opinion, is making them go another 40 years + and allowing people to enjoy them way after we are gone. Keep up the GREAT work and keep the postings going. Again from when you started and everybody said you shouldn't do the first one on your own, to where you are now is an amazing journey and I am glad you brought us all along for the ride.
azzuro dino looks great. agree that the unusual colors are nice to see. dont paint it "resale original" if the color doesnt appeal to you.
Freeman, Our color preferences are very much in synch. I usually prefer metallics, and like dark shades with warm-colored interiors, or lighter tones with darker interior colors. I love the exterior/interior contrast, which some younger enthusiasts obliterate with dark-tinted glass. Fred
A few more parts done and tomorrow I will start to tackle the AC system. This is new to me as on my 2 Dino's I removed it during restoration and decided not to put it back on. A lot of weight and not very effective. Interesting as this Dino has a larger outlet from the motor as well as a larger vent attachment at the dash. #08450 has a fan the size of the vent fans and the attachment at the dash fits the standard size vent hose. The 2 other fans are not part of the AC system but will work on those at the same time. AC work today. The hoses were in pretty sad shape so had new ones made. This is the grunge that is hiding in lots of cars and you would never know unless you go to this kind of work and dig deep. Exceptional work! One option for the A/C system is to fabricate hoses with modern, superior viton O-Ring seals rather that the old style 45 degree flare fittings - this was offered to me by the local A/C supplier. If you do use the flared fittings then they recommended using a sealing product from Grainger.
I painted the fuel tanks today with the same material originally used (I think). It's a Wurth product not available in the USA so I had to smuggle a case of it in from an unnamed source. It goes on very thick almost like drywall splatter, light beige in color. I also receiced the Koni shocks back from being rebuilt. Yes they did use that Wurth Jon... I can tell it's the old Wurth because it is in the metal can and not the plastic bottle it comes in now. They still make black and gray but they have discontinued the tan. That stuff is like GOLD! That material is very porous and what I usually do is use a matte two part clear to seal the undercoat. You can't even see if it has been cleared and any grime that gets on the tanks simply washes off with no discoloration. Bring them down to me and I will do it for you if you like. Sure is looking good! steve
With 2 cars on there way to paint soon, it was time to step up the effort to make sure everything is ready when the cars get back to me. Fantastic work! For what it's worth, it's a shame you're not repainting in the original color - it's beautiful and unique and would restore the car back it's original condition.
