I eyeball it... and it gets me in trouble most of the time. When I'm being more serious, I use 1oz gin to 7-8oz tonic. Everybody likes them differently, but for me that's the ratio that works.
I tried the Hendrick's yesterday. It's tasty stuff. I think I still prefer the Tanq 10 but either is a great choice. I want to do a side by side and see how they really compare.
Just tried Fever Tree Tonic. It is hugely superior to the usual store brand or Schweppes or whatever. For one thing they use real cane sugar and not corn syrup, but the overall taste is much better as well. I have been told that Fentiman's tonic is very good as well, but have not been able to find any locally.
Fever tree and Q are both good. I have a hard time finding either one locally to me though. Edit: after posting this I went and looked at Amazon and guess what?? They have Fever tree and Q. In fact they even have Fentiman's too. I ordered some Fever Tree so I'll have it around. I also ordered the sampler pack to try the Fentiman's. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005SLSVNE/ref=ox_ya_os_product http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GDC9ZI/ref=ox_ya_os_product
I'm back again. I was at Trader Joe's awhile back and found they had a whole bag of Key limes. I tell ya, they make a pretty tasty drink with some fever tree and Tanq 10. The only issue is they do have seeds unlike their bigger relatives. They are just the right size though, I just cut 'em in half and squeeze the whole thing in a big drink!!
What a great thread, I just found it. I'm a big fan of gin Martinis and tonics. My Dad was a beefeaters fan, I've simply followed in the tradition. I tried sapphire, good but maybe too smooth for me. I like the Gin bite. Next on my list Hendricks Tang Ten And the fever tree.
If I'm out and looking for Gin not too many place carry Hendricks or Tanq ten. If that's the case I prefer Beefeater over plain Tanq or any of the Bombay choices.
I have found a gin and tonic nirvana. This was on my Christmas list. Wow, is tang ten good, but I can't find the fever tree tonic, yet, so I was stuck using the HFC laden Schweppes. Even so, excellent!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had a hard time finding good tonic for awhile, but it seems to be getting more popular and easier to find. I do too. I've been drinking Hendrick's more lately just because it seems to be easier to find for some reason. Here in WA we just switched from state run stores to private so things have been a bit different. Nice to be able to walk into the grocery store though and pick up a bottle if I want.
Any thoughts on Bombay Sapphire East? I've been doing the Crater Lake Gin from Bendistillery for G&Ts for the past year and rather enjoy it.
Has anyone tried Nolet's Gin? A friend of mine told me about it and I picked up a bottle last week. It's expensive but by far the best gin I've ever had. Nolet's Finest Gins - Crafted with over 300 years of family experience.
Hendricks is the stuff for summer. Love it. Tanq 10 is great as well. For me, I keep the bottle in the freezer until I get ready to pour. 10 is the best martini gin for me. That's a new one I will have to try...thanks.
Im starting work on a Gin in a couple weeks....Need to learn whats out there already first though so I can find a taste I want... I am a big gin fan though so this should be fun.
I just found this thread last week and, after reading through the whole thing, went out and bought a bottle of Hendricks and some Fever Tree tonic. I added a couple cucumber slices and think I just found my new favorite drink!
lately I've been making G&T's with Hendricks and Fever Tree with a dash of lime. they're amazing. who would have thought that tonic water isn't all the same...
