Canadian Grand Prix track worker run over by crane
Very sad to hear. Motorsport is a dangerous thing for everyone involved and marshals have always been brave to volunteer. Sincerely, Andrew.
Horrible news; I'm a corner marshal at a local track so this hits home a bit closer for me. My condolences to his loved ones and colleagues. Thoughts with the crane operator too.
Volunteers. For a sport like F1 they should be paid. Im very sorry to read this after a good race. Terrible news for a race weekend.
It seems very avoidable. Make marshals teather the radio to their outfits and put a panic button on the radios
Such a sad thing and horrible to happen. So avoidable but in the hurry of the task, accidents happen. RIP...
Actually I found they were moving rather too fast considering all the people from the grand stands were running on to the track towards the podium... I was really surprised to see such a lack of procedure considering the magnitude of this event...
My gosh this is so sad. If you've ever raced, you have an unbelievable appreciation for the corner workers. They are all volunteers and the unsung heroes of racing. Without them, there is NO race. Our best wishes to his family and friends. Let's hope they learn from this and prevent it from happening again.
Terrible. As noted above, we have volunteer unpaid folks working a bazillion dollar race at the F1 level? At my local SCCA autocross I can understand, but wow. As far as being run over, all vehicles can be deadly, and speed doesn't matter. Both the people around the vehicle AND the driver have to all be doing the right thing or accidents like this can happen.
Even thought I was at turn 14 on Sunday I didn't get the news until 6 or so while at the traditional post-race social. Somber ending to a finally nice day of racing.
