No engine mods yet, I just cleaned the MAF and put in a new air filter, sparks, fuel filter, and oil change. Today I PlastiDip the rims, it turned out amazingly good. Also painted the calipers yellow. Yeah, this car is a keeper for a while and will be my daily driver along with my Sahara to work and keeping the Mondi for once a week touring to work. I would have kept the Midget but it was totally unsafe to drive to work and very much under powered.

    Cheers

    Very nice results!

What ballpark price was the color change?

After having done 5 cars, do you have any tips on getting a good paint job for a low price?

Thanks Matt. I did alot of the before paint prep, even did some bondo filler and sanding and took off all of the trimmings and lights, panels. So I used this local autobody and paint shop that does a good job for my cars. This one was abit under $2k but its a small car with no roof. A 911 coupe would have been an easy $3k-$6k depending on the quality and layers but no metalic in dove gray keeping the cost down. He gave me a slight discount after I did 2 cars with the guy. Since the boxster is mid engine and its hidden, I just needed to match the hood and trunk lids to the car along with the door sills. All was done nicely.

But yes, to answer how do you keep costs down, do your own prep work and remove all trimmings. Remember, if you ain't doing it, they will charge you hourly to take it off so you have to pitch in as well to save. I spent time at the shop taking parts off so they just need to tape, cover, and paint away. Good luck on your car projects.

Thanks TED! These cars get easier for me for every new project I work on.
But its great I have alot of passion for this kind of stuff and a loving wife that supports me, lol. Now I just need to complete my belts and get ROBIN back on the road before Palooza.

    Cheers
