I still don't really understand why the heck it happened. It seems strange. He went to pick up the radio that he dropped and got ran over...? Was the tractor traveling at 100 MPH or something? Did he have an episode that caused him to fall in the path and not be able to move?

I'd expect an announcement of some sort (trust find, memorabilia auctions etc) at Silverstone.

If not, they may just find themselves without anyone on duty.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Unless there are liability issues there's no reason they shouldn't.

I can only guess the crane driver was watching the car and not around his wheels. We've seen 'em 'swing around' on the crane and the driver wouldn't want to be the one responsible for, eg, stuffing it into the wall.

Terrible accident. Can you even start to imagine what the poor driver is feeling. :(

Hearing of Mark's deep interest in F1 and knowing he was probably assessing the race as we all were until Gutierrez interrupted his thoughts by arrived too quickly into the Senna barricade exiting the pits, I'd like his family and friends to know we were very appreciative of his efforts to have the race resume quickly.

This is the second death I've unfortunately witnessed in Montreal, however, in this instance, medics were on the scene immediately and I'm certain everything possible was done to save Mark.

Tragically, we have one less fan among us. RIP.

A tractor hauling an f1 car that crashed had two marshals in front guiding the car from swinging back and forth . One of the marshals dropped his radio and as he bent down to pick it up , he tripped and was run over by both wheels of the lift truck. A senseless death... The lift operator could not see anything happening in front of him. He was a 10 year veteran , quiet guy, worked at UPS and every year would take the week off for the GP. It was his Disney world... Apparently not one to talk much but the minute you mention f1 , you couldn't shut him up. He died doing what he loved... If you are wondering how I know this, well this morning talking to my next door neighbor I was told he was their best friend... Very sad, my neighbors work in NY and come home on weekends. His funeral will be held Monday after Father's Day . They( his close friends) are still dealing with the loss. They are appearently a very close bunch that stayed close since school... I still can't get over it, it literally happened right before me as others were watching the drivers celebrating on the podium... I didn't know where to look first, although I focused on the accident more...

Sad. A small series of mistakes with tragic consequences. Unfortunately, I'm my job, this thing seems so common.

The animation is pretty accurate. The cab and other marshal were on the left hand side of the crane. The crane appears to have driven over his foot, up his leg and crushed him. He was supine in one photo with the front right wheel on his back. I would assume the crane operator realized he was on something and stopped then backed up. It doesn't look to me like his head was touched.
