Agree'd. They use a current car for 1000km and get.....nothing. Why bother with rules. The message has been sent. Let the games begin....again :)

I'm not upset with the decision. If the tables were turned, and ths was Ferrari on trial, everyone would applaud the decision. This is no where near as severe as the spying scandal or crash gate. Any benefit they got from the tire test will be erased since they won't be able to take advantage of a future test.

There's no need to ban or massively fine Merc. It doesn't do the sport any good, IMO.

The whole affair is more of an embarrassment than a scandal.

    Move along, nothing to see.

If this is going to be the punishment, i could seriously see the gates of Fiorano being opened very soon and some 2013 F1 cars being fired up.

Spared or punished, the innocent young drivers are now viewing Silverstone as their own boulevard of broken dreams.

Rules are meant to be broken.

    Silly rules should be ignored.

Well done Mercedes; the ban on testing is completely stupid.

In any industry, it would be judged criminal to limit testing.

If limiting cost was the reason, why not restricting other factors around F1, not affecting safety?

Pirelli actually paid for a large portion of the test. It was a Pirelli test first, MB benefit second.

The six phases of any project.

    Enthusiasm,
    Disillusionment,
    Panic and hysteria,
    Search for the guilty,
    Punishment of the innocent, and
Praise and honor for the nonparticipants.

What they should have done is allow all the teams a test session with their 2013 car.

    On Pirelli's dime?

The FIA didn't have proper procedures in place. That's what created the mess.

To be fair, I think you have to add Mercedes chancing their arm with the procedures that were in place when you're talking about the mess.

Ross Brawn had had success in the past pushing the rules and regs (the double diffuser issue), and it appears that he felt he could do the same with using a 2013 car for testing.

Lets not forget the fact that Mercedes were found guilty of breaching the rules!

As I have posted in the other thread on this topic, the fairest thing to do would be to allow all the teams to run their race drivers in the forthcoming test instead of the young drivers.

That would act as more of a punishment than the pathetic reprimand and loss of a test that would have been of limited value in terms of this seasons Championship.
