Thanks. sigma 120-300 2.8 with 2x, tripod, remote shutter...then cropped. Not sure the 2x helped but I didn't take any without it to compare and now the moon is way too bright...though I may try. The moon is fast and her pictures are hard to come by.
I have never tried to take a picture of the moon. Is it too bright? Can you adjust with exposure or use software or filter?
The moon is very bright, my best shots have always been at dusk if I want some context. HDR helps but taking a good shot of the moon is difficult. I shot in aperture priority (my default) and this shot was -2 stops exp. Long shots of the moon never work, it move to fast. This shot was 1/250. The moon is a highlight and is kind of like shooting snow shots. you have to underexpose.
I love moon shots. But yes, you have to underexpose, or use a really fast shutter to get some decent detail. Doesn't seem like it, but slow shutterspeed will blur or overexpose ot both, the moon. Here's some various moon shots I have done.. In this order... A couple from yesterday.. Adventure of the Sea passing through Fehmarn Belt. It is actually roughly 6 miles away from where I shot the pics. The land in the horizon is Germany, around 11.3 miles away. Adventure of the Sea is 311 meter long. The other two ships in the pics are the regular ferries between Denmark and Germany, both around 140 meter long. Always nice to see big cruise ships passing through. Saw Oasis and Allure as well on their first trips to delivery. unfortunately the weather didn't play. Pics were from around 9pm. LOTS of clouds and dark skies because of incoming rain. No sun! The bus was really cute as well Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Tried taking some pics of this dragonfly. He was pretty quick but I got this one of him using manual focusing as auto would not pick him up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK lets play guess the F stop Lens mm and or shutter speed.. My guess is...1/250 of a sec...shutter and a 55 mm tele lens..maybe at 3.5 f and some post photo tweaking
Shot it with my 24-105mm at 95mm, ISO 2500, f/4.5 at 1/4000 sec. I took probably 30 pics of this little bugger and 3 of them are quality shots. He was so far away that I have trouble even finding him in some of the pictures.
