Very good post. Yet another story of arbitrary government interference, here on a scale so small that it could not matter. I think the 930 turbo lawsuit was Garrison v. Porsche. It was one of the largest law suit awards ever at the time.
Hmmm not sure how to answer that one in terms of dual mirrors.. It is a Sport version by title and VIN. Interior has roll cage and harnesses. Leather seats with cloth centers. I'll snap a pic of interior next time I see the car.
The 2 icons of my childhood in one place!! This brings me back to the first racing game I ever played on a computer. "Test Drive" on an IBM PS2 Model 30. Used the arrows to drive and space bar to shift. I preferred the 959 because it shifted so much faster. These days I'd love the F40.
There are pics of both the S and non S versions with one or 2 mirrors. Don't know if the second mirror was an option or an add on, but both versions have either one or two mirrors.
Yes, the center portion of the seats are trimmed in fabric on all 26 of these 'originally-destined-for-the-U.S.' Sport versions. The roll cages are padded, and trimmed in leather.
Cool, it definitely doesn't have the RE51's with the Denloc Seal then. They were out of production for a while, and Bruce cut the wheels to fit the PS2's. These cars sound amazing, and love to rev!
A few corrections and additions to my earlier 959 post: (1) The actual number of these 959 'Sport America' 959 is 29 (i.e. not the 26 I previously called out). (2) These 'Sport Americas' were fitted standard with just a driver's mirror; however, a passenger mirror was an option. (3) As is the case with the six 959 'Sport' (Euro-spec) cars built, there is no filler flap on the driver's front fender (i.e. where one would normally top-up the hydraulic fluid for the complex and heavy adjustable suspension on the normal 'Comfort' version), due to the 'Sport America' similarly having no need for it due to its conventional fixed height, fixed rate suspension, etc. (4) Factory fit orange 'Autoflug' shoulder harnesses. (5) The 'Sport Americas' were not fitted with Air Conditioning or Rear Seats. (6) A total of 291 959s (i.e. of all iterations) were built.
Can't rip out height adjustable suspension when S' didn't have it. And those Dunlop tires are terrible by todays standards. So if you like crap tires knock yourself out. The P7 is the best looking tire maybe ever made, but I will run new rubber all day long vs. 70-80's tech. No matter how original or great looking it may be.
Most of the cars that Canepa has modified have been standard 959's so yes he can rip out the adjustable suspension, which he has done. The Denlocs are made by Bridgestone, not Dunlop and they are not bad tires. As they are still produced, with a more modern compound mix however, they are more than capable of dealing with the 959's power and handling traits and are in keeping with how the car handled in period. If you want a car with up to date modern handling, get a new car I guess. Its not as if the Denlocs are bias ply tires or something......
From memory, the 959s were fitted new by Porsche with both Dunlops and Bridgestones. However, I believe the Denloc technology was developed (patented) by Dunlop itself.
what kind of job do i need to start to buy an f40 like this!!! haha, i wonder how it feels to wake up knowing you have an f40 just parked in your gargage, who needs coffee when you got a ferrari. send me an application and ill start tomorrow haha.
In regards to the Red 959 next to the F40, that is an S which does not have height adjustable suspension. If the car is a comfort like yours then yes Canepa changes it to S spec using titanium springs and custom shocks, while lowering the overall weight and ride height and giving you all the pieces to bring your car back to it's original configuration should you so desire. For me I will take less weight better ride height and frankly better looks and not mess with the adjustable technology. Of course I will keep it for the purest like yourself as I pass you with 600+ HP and less weight.
