    Hello again Rari Friends

Been down to look at my BRAND NEW 458 challenge, getting its pre delivery inspection, however very surprised it has been supplied with a Download lead but no Wintax4 software disc for my PC, there is also no lap beacon or basic owners manual! Surely this cannot be correct? Why supply a download lead and not the software to download the data, Surely there must be a beacon supplied to mark the laps and what about an owners manual?

Can other 458 Challenge owners who bought new tell me what exactly came with their cars?

    Cheers

It comes with shoulder harness pads, 2 Sabelt seat belt user manuals, a telemetry download cable, an aluminum bracket to shift the beacon sensor to driver side, a fuel cell compliance certificate and an FIA cage homologation sheet. Suggest you get the official MSO from your dealer. It comes with one set of rain tires marked 'for transport only" that are not usable.

You will need to buy or source everything else from a race team or dealer. Telemetry software, ECU Adapter, jack wand, jack safeties, wheel tool, radio harness, lap beacon....etc etc etc all extra/separate. Your dealer will need to provide or source the (factory authorized and connected) diagnostic computers. There is no manual.

You will also want to have someone qualified go through the entire car to do a nut-and-bolt and initial setup before you drive it for the first time.

did it "come with", or did you pay separately? Just curious.

I had option(s) to order all that, dealer was quite helpful but our team provides all of it. I may try and acquire the telemetry software ($). I had been using AIM RS2 at loved having it to review afterwards.

In North America, all the cars come with the "optional" passenger seat as "standard" (i.e. extra)

I don't think it really comes with anything (except the passenger seat as noted above). My dealer put together a package of things that I would need (air jack wand, etc.) that came to another $25k, if I remember correctly.

SHOCK HORROR!!!!! Thank you for your prompt response, actually I have those bits you mentioned that comes with the car, just cannot see sense buying a track car from factory in which then they don't bother to supply the absolute bear minimum to run the damn thing. Why supply a download lead but no software, my initial feelings are...what a rip off, was looking at buying an Audi which comes with cracking support but took the Ferrari route as well...you know... the damn thing is just drop dead gorgeous with that badge on the front, gezz the least they could do is make sure I can read the logged data, a beacon to log laps and a basic manual to know how tight the wheel nuts get torqued.

Ah well, just have to see what I can do then, as a last request, is there anything in particular I need to watch out for whilst running this lovely? any setup tweaks that don't work? Any that do?

    Cheers

am unsure if you are seriously surprised or being sarcastic.

I am a 458C "rookie", so am learning, though I spent months asking and discussing the car with teams and owners.

My first bit of advice is find an experienced, capable local team that knows this car. It's a step up in complexity, it's definitely a race car and not a road car, and has all the fun and frustrations that come with that.

As for setup, the first thing we did was a slow, structured test day; series of multiple installation laps. Amazing how many things come loose..and will keep coming loose..again, best investment is getting a capable team lined up to support you. From what I have heard, these cars are super reliable IF they are well maintained.

As for the "stuff to run them" from Ferrari, like Porsche Cup Cars or even Birel go-karts, they are really not intended for turn-key use. (in fact, they have no key).

Unsure where you live (complete your profile perhaps), but would find a local 458 Challenge race team or at least a Ferrari racing independent as first step, even if you're just going to track-day the car.

The analysis software can be downloaded for free from here.

Downloads - Software - Magneti Marelli Wintax4 Junior

You'll have to register to download but it is otherwise free. This is the Junior version of WIntax4 and it has most features you'd ever want. There's also a "USER" version with a USB dongle which is about AUD900.

IS the clutch on a new 458 challenge the same as the street version, a dual clutch?

458C has a DCT similar to the road version. A number of the detailed specs are different, including the gear ratios, but yes, generally the same idea.

New to challenge, so do you get to keep 458C in between races and after the yearly series ends, I assume the car is released to owners? Thanks

you own the car and you can do with it what you want.

Many/most have teams that prep/service/repair/transport the car and support at the track, it's more expensive but easier and more reliable in terms of keeping the car in top form.

These cars can be complex and would be difficult to "DIY" for most people short of an experienced Ferrari/race tech IMHO.

I have had the team bring my car "home" and have used it at my local track club, but with some tech support.
