    Seriously, you should search for the thread where a guy spent a significant amount of money turning a 308 into a track car. I remember that his first name was Steve and his handle had something to do with audio or stereo. From what I remember, his biggest problem was body roll.

    Man, I can feel the brake pedal doing the dirty boogie from here. Maranellos are great cars, but they are heavy and have a much better motor than brakes. :)

    No way do I want to get into making this any more track ready than what I'm doing really. If I had an '81 GTB that is partially a wreck to play with then I would really consider it, but an all out track weapon could probably be bad for heaps cheaper than converting some 308.

    I'm hoping to avoid a high traffic group...... Even though I'll most likely be stuck behind trains regardless....

    Jus remember, a man's gotta know his car's limitations. A 308 is only gonna go so fast around a corner. So if a punk SM blows by you, such is life.

    Not counting on out cornering a SM, no way haha. Rather I plan on making it up in acceleration and exit speed (maybe)? Should be a good test, fun anyway. Hopefully there will be some old 911RS clones out to play too.

    it's much more chill, no Type A instructors, no ridiculously long drivers meetings, no hazing to "go solo" (like you're getting your pilots license or something :rolleyes:). 6 20 minute sessions per day.

    run in intermediate or advanced and the talent is still there, and people are generally very good on point-bys and overall courtesy.

    I've done dozens of events with MVP. I've done one with Chin and won't go back.

    oh, and hopefully in November it won't be blazing hot and humid :)

    Sounds like a plan, I will look into it and book soon. That should give me adequate time to really dial in the suspension on the scales too.

    agreed but one of the worst (IMO) of the private track day groups...and I've run with a lot of different groups.

    Very nice if you have "the rig" that'll help you line it all up too. Although, we used good ol' fashioned string back in the dark ages.....

    BTW, as for the OP, I think I'm going with Procoach; About 10 seconds slower than you're hoping for sounds about right..... ;)

    Yup, I very good access to corner scales from a local shop who I have helped out with a couple quirky 308 carburetor/ignition issues. They have a hunter rig as well so I can dial in the camber just right too.


    Yeah I'm beginning to think 1:45-1:50 may be what to shoot for. Those spec Miata's will probably make up in the turns and braking anything I'm beating in acceleration, although I did manage a 1:39 in a superformance GT40 and I still think a well set up 308 could go through the esses every bit as quick, and those spec Miata's just don't accelerate! The fellow I was with who owns the GT40 was doing 1:34s and he's not a great driver by any stretch. That car had a sub 1:30 in it, no doubt.

    IMO from the entrance of 1 to the exit of 5 is all about the driver manning up and using the available grip :) horsepower through that section doesn't mean much, despite the elevation changes.

    The car seems to be comparable to a Spec Boxster or Porsche 986S Race Car depending on exact details. If you drive like a racer then you will be in the 1:45.XX range or less, if you drive like and experienced DE’er then you should be in the 1:55.XX +/- 5 sec. range. It’s the torque that is applied coming out of the turns that will aid lap times and mid range speed you carry thru the S’s as well. Road Atlanta seems like it has lots of mid to high speed turns and semi long straights HP will favor there and what looks to be one or two heavy areas where stock brakes should be ok. If the car has a good setup for the track it’s really a limitation of how hard the driver will push, I’m rooting for you to lap in the 1:55.XX range! Best of luck!

    I know it's not a spec Boxster, but rather a Boxster S below, but they do get around well there. My 308 accelerates about identical to the below car, but no way can it brake or turn like it can!

    last time i saw the challenge cars up there was for qualifying. pole was like 1.34 and my cousin ran a 1.39 i think. i was like why are you blowing all this cash when you could run SM for 1/100 the cost and the same times.

    i think scott tucker had some sub 1.30 times at another event.
