That's why I kept my F430 spider that I love. My Italia is just so solid feeling and it handles wonderful. When the top come off its not as solid. But, I like topless driving....glad I kept the spider for top down driving. Saying that any topless car will suffer in the handling. Trade offs.

Check out if you have something obstructing the throttle.

Is the engine broken in? Not supposed to rev over 5k rpm for first 500 miles.

My spider throws me back in the seat in every gear and it is a very short time between upshifts to redline at 9k rpm.

Are you in WET mode? ;)

Have you had an Italia or just spider?

Not sure what the mystery is here. The Spider's power to weight ratio isn't as high as the Italia.

Less than 1/10 of a second from 0 to 60. Even Alonso has difficulties to feel it.

With the top down the center of gravity is lower than the coupe and should corner better. ;)

Good afternoon from L.A guys. Just recently got back from Ferrari Beverly Hills after the 458 Spider test drive. To be frank, it didn't feel right. You don't get those brutal upshifts and downshifts, the throttle is less sharp and responsive, exhaust note is a bit different and IMO worse than the coupe. The Mayor, you were spot on, I think I will be sticking to the Coupe.

My sentiments exactly with first day of ownership.... Be advised, the 12 model (including coupe) does not have the exhaust overrun like the 10s and 11s. My 2011 I had back in 11 was the best most fun 458 I have owned. The spider is the least aggressive and the softest sounding but it is open top motoring which makes up for a lot of the softer differences!

If I were you I would ask for a 2013 coupe test drive. Just to be sure. ;)

No wonder the Spider didn't sound like my current 458 coupe from 2010... I think I'll be hanging on to my coupe for a while. Thanks again everyone who posted. I appreciate your feedback and opinions :)

Migas, I haven't tested the '13 coupe. Is there any difference between the 2013 model and my 2010 other than the exhaust note and the adhesive they use for the wheel arches?

DCT and ECU reprograming. It's better on full throttle, but softener on low revs. Very similar to what you've detected on 2013 spider.

    Performance it's pretty the same!

Are you saying the 10's and 11's are better sounding/driving coupes over the 12's and up? I've heard the opposite.

10s and 11s have more aggressive sounding exhaust note plus that great sounding exhaust overrun.

No. Don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying what I’ve written!

But specifically about sound exhaust 12 and 13 models are better and louder on high revs and softer and quitter on low revs.

You can drive them as you wish. ;)
