I think Alice In Chains "Rooster" or "Heaven Beside You" would be great.
What a wide variety of songs from similar genres/eras. Ballroom Blitz by Sweet, that song would be difficult to pull off live because of those impossibly high screaming notes and the very tight unison singing. Some of the others are just too instrumentally complex as well. Have to do alot of MIDI sequencing or have a large band. Nevertheless, some really cool suggestions, seems like there are alot of similar rock/pop taste similarities. Mike, being a keyboardist, I don't know if you've ever played "Green Onions" by Booker T and MG's?? That's a staple for keyboard bands in the South. That song, next to "Jump" and "Stand by me" is one of the the "most frequently butchered keyboard songs." I played it wrong for years, only figuring it out after listening to it carefully about a zilion times. It sounds cool even wrong!! In case you, or other keyboard players here, have ever wondered what the correct way to play it is....here is Booker T himself sitting at an M3 playing it slow explaining the chords, Booker T is often take as a "bluesman" type player from the streets, not so, he has a bachelors degree in music from Indiana University. Interesting how he embraced roots with Green Onions. That song alone has made him rich on royalties. I found this video on the web on some wordpress site, filmed it with my camera, then edited down and put it on my youtube collection to hopefully have younger musicians to learn it correctly. I still learn chord changes from youtube all the time, it's like a great cheat-sheet. How to play Green Onions - BY BOOKER T HIMSELF!! - YouTube

I wonder what Springsteen thinks when he sees that video now? I swear, Bruce came *THIS CLOSE* to having a Billy Squier moment with that one.

Wow... talk about information overload! Excellent suggestions that I, honestly, would have never thought. Thanks to everyone... seriously... Our normal process is for me to go through and make suggestions to the band as a whole, and concurrently get their suggestions, then once we've boiled down their list and my list to a single list, I make the final decision. Then, I send the list of 'working' songs out by email to the rest of the band, with YouTube links to the version I'd like them to listen to, and they are expected to know their parts for the next rehearsal for those songs I select to work on for that date. This has been extremely valuable, and I truly appreciate everyone who took the time and made the effort to respond. You guys are the best! Mike

Very sorry about your dog man. Dogs take up big places in our hearts. I lost my buddy a few years ago, I'm still not over it.

One thing I always liked about Greg Kihn was that he seemed to have a sense of humor and didn't take himself too seriously. Shame he didn't have more "rocket sauce" for creating more hit music.
offbeat suggestion but confession: if I were a singer in a cover band, I'd LOVE to do this: (got a sax?) Tim Curry - I Do The Rock - Original Video - YouTube
