Tim, I spoke with Chris about the time frame. He said that it would take about a month now and down the road ~ three weeks.

Bob if you can't come up with shields, you could always ceramic coat them. Others have done that with their headers and have been happy with the result. However, I didn't want to go in that direction because I am not sure how well coatings will last over time and also wanted to maintain the factory look.

Soon as I here yours fit I will get a set. That price for a hand built quality item is darn good. I dont think I could do it any better plus I dont have a purgebox that big.

    Much much appreciated :)

    I love the shield retrofit

I had another long chat with Dave Helms yesterday. I asked him to advise me going forward with my new car what to do. I have OEM, dealer welded and repaired headers, OEM cats and Tubi exhaust. He told me to put on my wish list the new OEM headers as he feels they are now the best alternative out there, a lot having to do with the shields. I sent him over this thread to have a look at what you did. This looks to me to be a well done alternative in keeping with the OEM design and the heat shields for a lot less money.

I hope that they get a few under their belt soon and iron out any fitment issues and maybe even come up with a shield solution also. In the mean time I will lookout for some OEM headers with the thought of really buying shields.

    Thank you

Bob, there are always a few used OEM sets on EBAY. Although, sometimes the sellers are asking bigger money than what they are worth. Most of us would not take the ones off our car if they were bad, just to put on another used OEM header that is going to fail also. Be patient, they are out there. You could also try some of the independent shops like Bradan or Dave's shop to see if they have any old sets kicking around. That's a big compliment coming from Dave. I have always enjoyed reading his posts. He provided a great source of information for all of us. As far as fit goes, if there are any issues I know Chris would stand behind them. Obviously it would be easier if they had my car at their shop, fitment issues could be addressed immediately. But in the end, I felt the reward was greater than the risk.

I have a used set of OEM 2.7 that I am willing to part with relatively cheaply :) I replaced mine with ceramic coated OEM headers and they seem to be doing quite well so far.

    Jim, those look awesome!

Do you have them on your car now? If so, any installation issues? Any need to do and computer tuning?

Thanks Dave. I will be putting them on when I have my major done, hopefully later this year. As soon as my mechanic is finished doing a major and a differential on a TR, my car will be next.

Jig built headers? Cant really see there will be an issue with fit.
I am thinking about getting these myself. Just don't have the need just yet but they look well done.

Those blankets look nice. Another option instead of ceramic coating.

Damn, those stainless headers/exhaust manifolds look awesome. The option of 321 is interesting too. With similar design to oem, they should maintain the oem sound/pitch, unlike the four into one designs. Keep us posted on your impressions once installed.

    Thanks!

Jimmy, I'm glad that project has been completed to your satisfaction. If it was an option last spring I certainly would have considered it. I am still very happy with my setup but its not for everyone :)

Thanks Hugh and Carm. The guys at Stainless did a nice job with the headers. I will have them installed when I do my major, hopefully sometime later this year. If I wasn't trying to keep my car original, the set up that you did on your car Carm, eliminating the bypass pipe and simplifying this system makes a lot of sense. I am glad that you are happy as well.

Leo, I had these headers custom built by Stainless Headers in Fargo, ND.

Price for 304s/s starts at $2300. This is without shields or air rails.
Add $250 for air rails. Add another $650 for heat shields.

Price for 321s/s starts at $2800. This is without shields or air rails.
Add $250 for air rails. Add another $650 for heat shields.

As I posted they can cost anywhere from $2300 to $3700 depending on what you want done and the type of s/s used.

    Hope this helps.
