Finally, a race weekend. Not my favorite circuit but I certainly don't dislike the place. Don't count on much overtaking though! Nor will this circuit be too telling for most teams regarding these new tires. Quite a bit of mechanical @ Turns 1, 2, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, should be interesting. Not sure if the tire test will have particularly helped anyone all that much here.

Lotus will be quick, very quick. 32-35C weekend coming up which means track temps will probably be north of 40C, and those kind of temps are Lotus country. If they qualify well, they will win.

Ferrari can do well if they figure out the middle sector here. F138 may not play nicely there as it sort of mimics copse/maggots/becketts/chapel and F138 was a handful there this year.

    Red Bull, fast.

Mercedes, if the new tires work Benz's way, a podium or win could be in the cards. It all depends on how hard their suspension works these tires and how well they hold up, which may work very much in their advantage as we've heard these new tires are a good bit more robust. This race could go either way depending on these tires now.

Tires: first race use. Pirelli have stated the new tires last longer and are not as flexible and run cooler.

And finally, this race will put any 'Mercedes cheated' banter to bed if Mercedes are still very quick regardless of every team now having been given the same or better testing opportunities now that Merc have sat out the YDT.

    Tires again...and again :)

I have no idea who will win. The attrition could be high due to the heat stress on all involved cars or people. EDIT after reading the BBC link:

    Q
    Vettel
    Grosjean
    LH

    Race
    Vettel
    FA
    Kimi

Bulls to walk it as usual (well, Vettel that is).

Mercs to fade as usual (cue much gnashing of teeth about tires and lack of progress etc etc).

Lotus to put in a good show but come up short... as usual.

Fred to outperform the Ferrari... as usual.

    Phil to crash... as usual.

Overall quality of Hungary track action - you guessed it - dull. As usual.

And for the folks attending the race in person it will be one of the best GP weekends they ever experience. As usual. ;)

I know there hasn't been a race in awhile but I'm having a hard time getting up for this. I'm sorta disillusioned with F1 at the moment, I think this race will be another Vettel cakewalk. Ferrari needs to win a race.

Ham seems to like this track (3 wins), but I need to see how all the teams deal with the new tires before I can get a bead on the race. It feels like there are too many variables...heck, Lotus could end up with a 1-stop strategy for all we know.

Ham for qualifying seems like a safe bet at this point though...

Yes it's a long shot outside bet Merc and race pace, Ferrari will do well and the bulls and Lotus will have a good showing, but in general I agree with you, very hard to tell.

Oh and apparently it is very very hot...
