From BBC "A Ferrari statement said Alonso was reminded by Di Montezemolo that "all the great champions who have driven for Ferrari have always been asked to put the interests of the team above their own". According to the statement, Di Montezemolo also insisted that "this is the moment to stay calm, avoid polemics and show humility and determination in making one's own contribution, standing alongside the team and its people both at the track and outside it". Montezemelo could follow his own advice. Better still he needs to stop meddling with the F1 team. They are better off without him. I still hold him and his enormous ego in pushing Schumacher out too early. Sounds like he is spoiling to do the same with Alonso
I love Ferrari's road cars, but I have never liked their recent (post 2006) fiery Italian-only racing team loose canon type mentality. Enzo would have been this way too, and it's utterly Jurassic and will never work in this era of racing.
I am not insinuating anything. I just believe that any talented driver wants a seat in the best car in the field to win races and hopefully championship, not merelly just to put FERRARI on his CV in his list of employers. The Scuderia has some lean years in the past (ask Amon, Jackie Ickx, Jean Alesi, Gerhard Berger, Nigel Mansell, etc...) and right now is not the best team in F1.
You're absolutely right, bring back testing, it's ridiculous. The highest form of motor racing and they can't test. So if you have a crap car from day one, you're pretty much stuck with it for the year. They talk about saving money, and they're constantly changing rules on what you can and cannot use on your car, costing, in most cases millions.

If you look at the facts about Alonso: Renault - wins over the years are about the same as at Ferrari. if they had the same number of races - Alonso would have won the WDC with Ferrari. I dont belive that Alonso is in the same leauge of driver as Schumacher, Stewart, Vettle, Prost Senna etc... just not. same for Hamilton. Vettle is cleary the Jim Clark of his age - and he's YOUNG. Alonso is getting to the age point where he's getting tired of all the crap - money or not, he does not want to work as hard... cant blame him. Ferrari clearly need to do much better. The Italians always think under it all, it should be 100% italian effort - and that is not going to work. Montezemolo is too busy working the political channels, and being a grande ass... he needs to do what Mr. Ferrari did - hunker down and get the right people in the right positions ...

He did that himself back in 1993 by hiring Todt and letting him do his job. It would be nice if he could remember that... This reminds me a bit of 1991, when Prost criticized the team and they lost their minds. Hopefully they don't escalate with Alonso since they don't have Alesi to fall back on!
Given its almost if not, more the car than the driver does it matter. As stated earlier they need a better car. That means the engineering/prodution and leadership end of the team. FA gets them close with his skills but not close enough. Red Bull is the model - Great car and drivers getting consistent WINS and points. Also Ferrari pit wall strategy and tactics are not the best either. There is also a lack of consistency there as well. Overall they cannot get it right like Red Bull - Race pace and superb 1 lap qualy performance. Its as if they are torn with a strategy for each, but unable to create one that covers the spectrum.
Vettel has had the best car on the grid for the last four years and barely won over Alonso in an inferior machine twice (10 and 12). The Clark of this generation? Hardly. He's very good but also very lucky to have landed with Red Bull. I still rate Alonso over him, maybe even Hamilton. No current driver is on the same level as Stewart, Prost, Senna, etc just yet. To me Alonso is the closest. Alonso has been holding up his end of the deal while the team has not. I'd be pissed too. LDM is being a *****. He should worry about fixing the issue and being honest with himself and the team. Ferrari's team management is thier own worst enemy.
Disagree ... Vettle is clearly THE guy to beat. he has the best car - so did Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Prost, Senna etc... Alonso - I really dont see it. when he was at Renault - they were the up and coming guys -Ferrari suffering from Byrne and Brawn burn out... he's good - yes, but not great.... yet. THE Great ones - can develop a car.. with out testing its more difficult but Vettle and Red bull are doing it... why cant a team like Ferrari? they have the $$$, technology - ok they dont have Adrian Newey but one guy is not designing the car any more... Ferrari are fat and sassy... they need to get back to work.
I hear you, but Newey is the 'concept guy' that lays down the specs etc. OK, there's then a huge team of guys implementing his ideas and putting 'em into the 'puter, but Adrian's the man. As I've been saying for years now (!), he's got to do a dog soon...... As for Ferrari, hopefully Allison will help. But to say they're not working hard is a little harsh to say the least IMO... Gotta be one of the highest pressure gigs in the world. Anything less than the WCC (preferably also the WDC) is considered a failure.
