    Hi Vince,

I'm a big advocate of the 348, absolutely love mine, but really like the 355 too. I had the option of going either way (the route I've taken with my 348 has put the cost well above that of a 355, knew it would at the time - seriously 'tarted' her up to look pretty much like new) so cost was not a factor in the decision to go for a 348.

Best advice on this thread - drive both as they feel very different. The 348 feels like the last 'old school' feeling Ferrari to drive - very 'mechanical' feel. The 355 feels like the first 'modern' Ferrari to drive - much more civilised feel. See which you prefer and go that way.

I truly cannot thank all of you enough. I'm pleasantly surprised there is even a former 300zx owner chiming in!

AceMaster, thanks for asking about my progress. It forces me to take stock of what has transpired over only the past 4 days, which is not a lot of time to try and get up to speed on these beautiful machines.

I have been contacted by various current sellers of 348s and 355s and some who are going to sell in the near future. The range (without differentiating between models and years) has been -
    348s - $34k to $45k
    355s - $43k to $62k

I have discounted the $62k (a 355 Spider outside my budget) and one $45k (a 348 which needs major service soon). Of the others I have requested pics and details, but received only smatterings of both. So my next step is to contact each person again and ask for current pics of wear/damage/condition and more specific information about the car's service and history.

On the self-search front I have taken Ketel's advice to heart and decided to expand my search into other models to confirm that when I do purchase a Ferrari it is exactly what I want. On Friday I went to visit a 308-328 dealer (Forza) but he was closed...I have posted on this thread asking for opinions on Forza. I have also started looking into TRs, since I don't want to buy a 328/348/355 only to regret it once my financial situation improves because I could've bought a TR if I had waited. I have found a few TRs which I plan to see over the next little while.

Overall since joining FChat my best education has been learning to be patient. Me looking at a Ferrari is like a kid in a candy store - I just want it. But via this thread and the advice received I am pulling myself in so that my decision is less emotional and more reasoned.

So there it is. No Ferrari in hand and not much closer to buying, but definitely becoming better prepared.

Please feel free to offer more advice! I appreciate any and all contributions to the discussion and to my level of knowledge.

So you changed your mind about 348/355? You won't find a TR in your current price range.

I still want and am looking for a 348/355, but if after driving a TR it is the Ferrari I must have, then I'll wait until I have the funds. The same principle goes for 328s. I don't see either happening, but I'm leaving the possibility open.

So the search for the right 348/355 continues!

I bought my 1994 348 spyder in December of 2012 and I absolute love it. It is everything I could ever ask for in a Ferrari. There is a raw and visceral feeling to driving and listening to the sound of the car. I put a new radio in the car and have turned it off.

I feel that whatever car you decide to buy you have to drive it and make sure it is what you want. A few extra dollars over the the long haul is a pittance if you get the right car. What you dont want to do is to save a few dollars and end up with a car you dont want.

I bought my car from the Auto Gallery in California and they have been great. I just happend to wander in after they took the car in trade on a 430. I just got lucky.

Take your time and read everything you can on here and you will get the info you need to help you make the right choice,

    Good luck

    Hi,

Just a brief update...my search is still continuing! A bit stressful but a bunch of fun!

Still need to reply to a few PMs and emails. Want to say 'Thanks!' to the Ferrari owners who let me test drive their beautiful machines this past weekend.

My 'must have a Ferrari' rash is starting to itch again - just want to buy one ASAP!

If a Ferrari has been in an accident (not a Salvage title, but documented accident) how much below the NADA should be offered?

To be more specific, the car had rear bumper damage, lower lefthand rear quarter panel damage and the exhaust was bent. I have seen the pics and it was not catastrophic. The panel was replaced, the exhaust replaced and bumper replaced. Very good repair, not perfect, but very good.

Any thoughts on a fair price?

I dont think you would subtract much. In fact, the documentation of the crunch as relatively minor is a good thing along with the car. Driving a "not quite perfect" car is much less stressful! Lotsa times, we tend to overthink these things.

In a similar situation looking for 348's. So far came across 3 without records, 1 with records but ppi showed it needed significant work, and now one which has had damage repaired in front and the rear.

    The search goes on.....

Quite a few on the market, but upon closer inspection many are not in 'concourse condition' as the ads claim.

Hope to find one before the end of summer.

As a previous owner of a 308QV and now a 348 TS SS I'd suggest that you buy a 348 toward the last of the production. The 348 SS cars are a bit more desireable and may hold a little more value than other 348s. The reasoning for my comment is that as with every model run Ferrari seems to work out the bugs and issues as production goes on. This is why I sought a 348 SS while I was looking for my car. Drive one and see. When I got my 1994 SS I was dissapointed that it did not have the Kevlar F40 style seats, but after riding in a friends car with the seats, I decided even though I LOVE the look of those seats I am happy I have the stock Ferrari seats in my car. In my opinion I like the 348 styling much more than the 355. I would like the 75 HP more but what I have gets up and goes just fine. I like my 360 wheels because they make the car look better, in my opinion only.
