Hi All, I was driving home the other day and the fuel was getting low next thing I noticed was the needle had dropped right down to nothing, I put in £40 of petrol but still nothing, any ideas very welcome. Thanks in advance Tim
I would check two places. 1) The connection for the sender on the bottom of the fuel tank. It will be on the bottom right hand side of the tank, when looking forward from the rear of the car. You will need to remove the cover under the tank to get to it. Here is what it will look like. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/137616270-post6.html 2) Check the connection on the back of the fuel gauge. Here is how to get to it. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/67305303-post1.html
Cheers errnie. I have checked the plug behind the gauge but that seems fine, Where is the panel I have to remove as looking under the car im not too sure what to remove! I wonder if the sender has had it as the gauge used to flicker all over the place when I picked it up from the dealer and they had it back to sort and put it down to an electrical plug issue. I have lost faith in the garage and they are 130 miles from me also, so I want to try and sort myself if possible. Is there any other plugs in between I can check? Thanks so much for your help ernie its great.
You will need to lift the rear of the car up so you can get access from underneath. It's on the bottom right side of the fuel tank. Between the engine and the passenger compartment.
You can see the fuel sender wire hanging down on the left side of this picture. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachments/technical-q/706530d1207758697-348-gas-tank-removal-removing-support-brack-nuts.jpg The pic was taken from the bottom right side of the car, looking back.
Got it ernie, the wires seem very stiff and brittle I will try and meter it by putting pins through the wires near the sender and then on the plug as it looks like the wires may be damaged as the plastic protector shield that covers them has worn away and i bet there is a break there. Let you know
Take some pics and post them while your at it. It'll help out the next guy that needs to tackle the same issue.
