Just returned from our first Ferrari Club of America International Meet at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. I had to pinch myself to ensure I wasn't Dreaming. We were very fortunate to be selected to be one of 10 Ferrari's to join the 599 Passione "Lap of North America" final leg from Motion Products onto the front lawn at the Osthoff Resort. Then we rolled our 1992 348 TS into the Concours line and drove off with a "PRIMO PLATINO" award. Next I was able to wear a newly aquired Fernando Alonso Replica Driving suit and Helmet for Tracking the beautiful Road America Road Corse. ( Unfortunatly the Helmet arrived the day before the event and was missing the required Snell sticker so I had to go to a flat black back up.) Zymol was there as sponsor of the Concours and placed a Go-Pro in my car for the tracking event and left me with a 44 minute high-def video! We joined in on the Race Car Parade into downtown Elkhart Lake and were overwhelmed at the crowd turn out. I greatly enjoyed letting kids sit in the drivers seat while their moms and dads took photos of them. A lot of smiling faces all around! At the Awards banquet the slide presentation included pictures of my lovely wife and our personalized license plate: "DADS GFT". The weather was perfect and the Ferrari's? Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!!! THERE WERE SO MANY WONDERFUL FERRARI'S! The sounds are still ringing in my ears from the track events! The members were so friendly and outgoing! We all shared a passion and everyone seemed to be on equal ground, no matter how many cars they brought or how deep there pockets were, everyone enjoyed each others company! Thank you Ferrari Club of America directors for hosting such a wonderful event!!!!

    Dave,

Can you win with some paint flaws like some nose chips from driving and some leather scuff in a driver's side bolster? Or is a platinum car flawless in every way?

I have 1 rock chip on my car and some slight scuff mark on my driver's side bolster but still took home the Platinum award at the Garden state Ferrari Fall Festival last yr.

I think platinum "just" needs to be 95 points or higher. So, you can have 5 one point deductions and still make it.

At Concorso Italiano 2010, my 355 lost a point for a sticky vent (I swear it went sticky in the sun that day, it has since been re-finished). Also lost half a point for paint and polish (flawless original paint, but could have been the clear bra, or some of the factory original paint defects). Still came out to 98.5

having been a concours judge,it's difficult to nitpick at times......but that's the only thing that can separate the winners and the top cars from the "also rans"
some owners take the point system very seriously,as they should, but sometimes it's hard for them to hear the truth

well done with your 348,it was well earned!

IAC PFA judging rules generally hold that "normal" wear from use will not be a deduction. However, you have to consider the venue. The judging gets tighter and tighter the farther up the ladder you go.

A few minor front end rock chips or a slightly warped plastic part might not hurt you much at Celebration or Concorso, but at Cavallino or the FCA Nationals? That's another story entirely!

Major, major props to the OP on the accomplishment. Enjoy the feeling! You earned it!!

David - First, congratulations!! I know how much time and energy you've spent on your 348, and it shows!!!

I did notice one tiny little thing that your judges overlooked....but I'm sure the FCA will certainly not change the Platinum award. Look carefully at the last photo in post #7. I offer this is the truest sense of help and being a 348 fanatic myself.

Yes, the rear wheels are mounted backwards. LH and RH rear wheels should be swapped. You'll need to check whether the tires must be re-mounted, depending on whether you have directional treads that were mounted incorrectly, of if perhaps its just the wheels that got mixed up at some point.
