Hmmmmm For a long time, the first one made that was also aluminum and appeared in the "Thomas Crown Affair" plus was raced by Denise McCluggage was here in CO. It went to auction in 2008 and struggled to reach 4M. Dave
Here's the lot: 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider by Scaglietti | Monterey 2013 | RM AUCTIONS Quoted for documentation's sake...
Dave, That was so 2008. But seriously, this car was a single owner(!) and that car was apparently crashed by McQueen. I guess some people would pay more for that but not back in '08. -F
hmmm that sounds crazy. i love those 10 cars as much as any tifosi, but thats a steep price rise from last sold....i guess the market has spoken though.
Yes, it's possible JC was bidding on behalf of a client/end user but he did bid to $22m including buyer's premium, which is still a huge amount of money, 80% of the winning bid and way over estimate. There may also have been a "fee" payable for his services on top of that to the client. He reportedly said in a telephone interview after the auction the following: “The NART Spyder is a very special car. They’re so rare. They’re among the most beautiful of all Ferraris. Some of the biggest collectors in the world own one, and Steve McQueen tried to buy this one after he crashed his.” From the above, not only would I do more than assume and take it as a fact that he saw the value in the car if he was bidding for a client, but also that he saw the potential for profit if indeed he was bidding for himself/Talacrest to sell on.
275 GTB/4 NART Spyder 09437 was auctioned and sold for $3.9M ($3.96m on barchetta) in 2005, not 2008.
Didn't McQueen have it mildly altered in the repairs with a slightly raised rear deck and bigger spoiler/lip?
I have read this. So in which form would it be the most valuable? In original form or how McQueen customised it.
No race provenance. AFAIK the only one to be raced is The Thomas Crown Affair car, 09437 at the April 1967 Sebring 12 Hours by Denise McCluggage and Marianne 'Pinky' Rollo. Image Unavailable, Please Login

McQueen drove it in the movie and then ordered one for himself. Seriously, it was #1, aluminum bodied and had a little race history. I'd rate it higher. Dave
