This is the first day of the new Dino 246. We had just bought it from Baker Motor in Atlanta for the breath taking $19,000, at the time a top of the line Mercedes was $14,000. I mean our house and two acres only cost $19,000 on lake front. So, that was serious money.

Notice the one that has my dad opening the door on the Dino, you look to the right of the photo and see the White Ferrari 308GT4. We got that from John Apen before FAF became a true dealer.

Notice the ABARTH tag. My dad was a dealer for Abarth late 50's and early 60's. He bought the Team Roosevelt Cars in 1960, the whole team, 5 cars, and only one was a twin cam.
I will include a photo of one.

Did you buy the car brand new from the dealer, or from his pre-owned section. I am wondering why the top is color matching and not black.

Great pics ! Yup that was serious cheddar, compare that to the cost of a Boxer or Daytona! Or even the first 308s just a couple years later at nearly 40k! Yikes.

This is going to get VERY interesting if bought new, with the top being red.

Is there more Info about the targa top?

Yeah, my dad hated the targa top, and loved the coupe, so he had it painted red to make it look better. After all it was just a car, and people always tuned things up a bit on something.
He won the SCCA division in 1966, there were 15 races that years, he won all 15. driving the "Beach" race car made by Gene Beach is shown below. So he chose the Dino over the Yellow Daytona Spyder that was sitting next to the Dino. The Daytona drove like a truck, not something you could run up and down the Appalachian Mountains, We live in Hiawassee Ga. The very north east section. The Highest mountain is here at just under 5,000 feet.
Needless to say he set records at Chimney Rock back in the 60's, that held for over 20 years, and no longer ran his specs.

    The Daytona was $21,000

If you notice the red dino, that is the last time I ever saw it. This was late 70's at Road Atlanta. Seems a man in the Air Force bought it. AND, took the top off. I don't think we ever had the roof off. Convertible were not our favorite things. They were like boats, only two good days with a convertible, "the day you buy it, and the day you sell it". But, the Targa was not like the soft tops, what a mess they were in the 60's and 70's for Jag and Mercedes. We sold a Very nice Mercedes , Black over Black , a 450SL to a woman who had just started making money playing "Wonder Woman" , her name was Lynda Carter.

We had about 30 Abarths back in the late 50's and most of the 60's.
