Pulling the dash out and other leather pieces that I want to have fixed since the leather has shrunk and pulled the sticky parts that need to be fixed.

Not sure what route im taking on the sticky stuff yet no rush since im headed back to Afghanistan next week but I did want to get my interior parts out to be fixed.

One thing is wtf is this **** on the plastic is like damn Tar.

But the fun was I found the Center A/C vent was broken and I broke it all the way removing it, The Shifter Bezel with all the switches in it just fell apart when I lifted it out, so both of these were broken before not expecting that.

I might as well buy a salvaged 355 before buying those pieces straight up.

Then the Radio Bezel was just F-ed up! It was cut to make room for the stereo that was installed but whoever did the cutting I think it was the first time they ever did something like that just beat up and if I wanted to pull the stereo out I would need to replace that as well.

Oh well I would love to get a hold of whoever worked on this car in the past and slap the **** out of them.

The shifter trim is like $500 to replace. Maybe it can be repaired

I just removed my three vents today to get them cleaned up. Since the car is a CH version I don't need perfection since there is no vent system but they were looking very bad...

Long story short of course I broke the tabs off the two end ones since trying to maneuver around the roll cage to get them out is a challenge. The center one came out easy.

Has anybody figured out a way to repair the tabs off these vents? I was thinking using a steel clip of sorts (no idea from where) which can be riveted in behind where the old clip used to be. Gluing the plastic clip back on won't do much since there's no support structure (it's basically a single edge tab).

Also -- what's the best way to clean these, soak them in a bucket of <product?>

    Thanks.

The best way is to contact 285Ferrari (who posted above) and ask about his "Sticky No More" process... Let a pro do it. He does it right. Every time. Period.

Thanks Mike -- I was looking for the DIY on this as I don't need the decals nor the exact texture -- just need them not to look like gooey black every time I get in the car.

Also I want to get the hang of solving the sticky issue that I have on this car and a few others...

Great! Thanks for the help; the last notes I had on the procedure had the ez-off method which was more complex...seems like the greased lightning will do it much faster.

Also just to explain my previous post...my interior is currently a 6-7 out of 10. Stickynomore can give me parts back that are a 10 out of 10 but I'm only looking to get the interior to a ~8-9 level since the car is stripped, etc. Hence the value for me is getting these things that look like junk and just getting them cleaned up without spending all the $ for a professional resto.

    Thanks.

+1 on the Greased Lightning. I did my AC vents yesterday with a toothbrush and some 00 steel wool. Came right off with no difficulty or odor. Have fun...

Is the greased lightning toxic at all? Can it be done in a sink in the garage with running water or do you dedicate a container for the process?

I need to do my vents as well. What is the best way to remove them (and reinstall them) to avoid breaking the tab?

You have to take your time with the two side ones I found. Push the vent in (the one that rotates about the horizontal axis) until you see a tab at the top, you have to insert a screwdriver in the tab and pry *down*, but very slightly, maybe 1/8th of an inch...

As you do that, tug on the entire vent assembly, it should pop out at the top and then come out entirely.

The mistakes I made were that on one of them I first pushed in the tab by mistake which made it impossible to pry it out (open) without force which broke it. On the second one it was just brittle plastic and broke.

You can do it wherever you like, just wear gloves. Most of the parts in my interior were already done but I did the last two myself and it was fairly easy using the greased lightning method.

Ok, I just did this today -- it's really really really easy....Did I stress how easy it is?

Cost was $3.87 for the Grease Lightning plus another $0.99 for a basic toothbrush I bought when I was out at the local store.

There's really no right or wrong way to go about it; put all parts in a sink with running hot water or in a container with warm water, soak, take out, spray GL, brush off, rinse, repeat. I found there was no real need to wait for the GL to work its way through, after 3-4 cycles of this process the parts were clean.

Keep in mind you lose your white lettering/arrows and the final texture is a matte plastic finish. For me this will be fine...I just have to glue together the parts that I broke off and put back in the car.

One other recommendation -- you want to get in between the vent slats -- be careful with the side vents when putting anything through (a toothbrush won't fit there easily) because the vertical tabs are very fragile and easily damaged. Let's just say I'll be gluing these tabs on mine back on in a fixed position...

I used low price oven cleaner. I used lots of rags and gloves. No problem. I did all my parts in place. Everytime I discovered a sticky place I did the clean.

Ive done 3 cars now and the oven cleaner is too hard. GL is the way to go and easier on the lungs. If you ever get around to the rest of the car...H-vac area....the ashtray is so much easier than many make it out to be....unbolt the little flags and use paint stripper. The paint will bubble off in less than a minute and you can literally lift the paint off with your fingers.

3 cars ... I give you credit! My 355 was my first and my 430 my second. I told myself "That's it for Ferrari. If I have to strip another sticky interior, I'd rather go to ... gasp ... "L"!

This thread I find appropriate to ask. So, I don't turn my 30 dollar project into a 1500 dollar project can Someone tell me if the switches get removed from their casings and do the vents separate where the flat head screwdriver points. Thanks so much....

The vents DO NOT come apart, they are glued/bonded....

I don't know about the switches...

I think the switches come apart, the covers snap out if I recall correctly...proceed with caution.

The vents do not come apart -- this is a problem as I'd like to paint them also on the inside and I have no idea how...

Switches come apart but there are spring loaded, very small plastic pieces inside which will fly out and which are difficult to get back in without making some kind of assembly tool. The little labels also pop out once apart.
