Hi Everyone.....Two weeks into ownership of a 2011 red 458 and love every minute of it.. Used to have a red 612, which was a blast to drive, and could go under the radar when taking her out, as no one seemed to notice her. The 458 is certainly different. A woman came up to me, probably 75 years old, tapped on the glass and said "how much did you pay for that?".....she would not let up, asking again and again.....with my mouth wide open, I think I said I forget....to which she thought I had no brains.
Anyway, curious besides the obvious price questions, what does everyone get asked about their 458? How fast does it go? Is that a Porsche? Can I have a ride?
    Need to be prepared

    They say...
    That's a beautiful car.
    How fast does it go?
How much does it cost. Answer: I don't remember.
    Where did you buy it?
How fast have you driven it? Answer: 140 on the race track.
    What year is it?
What's your gas mileage? Answer: I don't know. Never checked.
Can I take a picture. Answer: Yes.

I ususally show them the engine, point out the aerodynamic features, CC brakes, DCT, all aluminum construction, etc.

I didn't get this with my 360, but with the 458 I most often get asked "What IS that?" Occasionally while staring right at the Ferrari badge on the back. No one seems to believe me when I say it's a Ferrari.

Other than that, I get the same questions listed above.

Come on, no one has asked (or joked), "HEY! That thing got a Hemi?"

Some old lady pulled up next to me and told me that her Dad had a Ferrari years ago and how she's always lived ferraris since. All this happened within a couple of red lights on a small street.

The #1 most typical question is: how much.

It depends on who is asking but usually its worth throwing that back at them: Out of all the questions you might ask me, how's it like to drive, what's it like to own, you ask the one question you could get answered instantly via a smart phone. Ask me a better question and I will answer you.

I also once saw someone post that he would just reply he doesn't know. The car was a gift from his wife for his going beyond his husbandly duties... :)

You can tell who are the jerks and who are the genuine enthusiasts. Don't let the jerks off the hook unless you are concerned for your safety. To the enthusiasts I tell them I truly appreciate their thoughts.

The one & only question I have been asked in the first two weeks of ownership as I was exiting the vehicle is "Do you have any type of job for me?

But on the roads plenty of cars have tried to race me, most of them much lessor mortals. I humor them only when it is safe to do so. One fax machine was a big show off, whizzing past me (very much deliberately and in my face).

Saw the prancing horse and asked, "Is that the new Mustang?". I said yes.

One person in their early twenties asked: how can you afford that car?

Answer: lots of 80 hour weeks and very few mistakes handling money.

This Message gives them something to shoot for... Hard work and careful money mgt pay off. there is no short-cut to making money for the vast majority of us.

This happens a lot to me, and it sometimes gets me concerned. Often it is a tiny econobox driven by a kid, or a pickup. Usually it is harmless, but occasionally someone gets too close or drives erratically; then I do leave the scene quickly.

As for questions, I rarely get them, mainly because the cars spend a lot of time in an area where they are commonplace. When I do get those silly questions, I usually say I have no clue, "The owner loaned it to me for the day." But once in awhile someone who knows what it is comes up at a gas stop to chat about it. That's OK.

When I am asked "How much did that cost?"
I respond "A lot of blood, sweat, and tears."

I find the Vegas on lookers to be interested in "how much", no surprise there. By contrast, often throughout California, passing drivers give a thumbs up and when stopped at a gas stations or parking lot, people ask if they can take a picture and say things like "nice ride" or "beautiful car". When , on the rare occassion, someone asks me what it costs I tell them. No negative responses afterward. Best

Well, I do not want people going around saying I saw a Ferrari and it cost $xxxxxxx. No I want them to remember the car. what it costs is irrelevant. Saying "I don't remember" gets the point across beautifully.

And, this is a small town. People just do not approve of people who go around telling what things cost. Really not acceptable here.

BTW only a few people have asked me what the car costs...they were ALL tourists.

    How much did it cost?

I took the advice of a F chatter on a previous thread. Ask them how much they think it cost. Most people say a figure way less, and I say "that's about right".
One guy said about $80,000, I had to tell him it was more.

The best question I got was from a young parking attendant in France. He said "I have only one question: what mileage do you get?" I hesitated and he said "oh no don't tell me you don't know! We live in different worlds!"
I thought that was pretty funny...
