Are there any tutorials on how to do this? I have only found this... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136183375&postcount=13 ... from this thread... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126112&highlight=removing+dash I am getting my AC up and running for the summer and want to repair this... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257789 Thanks!
It's not that difficult. Remove #22 Remove steering wheel Lower steering column Remove instrument cluster Disconnect and remove trouble light plug #4 Remove 2 bolts between dash cluster housing #21 & 13 Find the 4 bolts under the dash on the sides at # 11, 12 Pull out the dash and the corner dash #11, 12 Remove the top dash cover #3 Image Unavailable, Please Login
From here on, I Knight you the 'dash guru'. (see: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375311) Thanks. Sent from my iPhone (which probably means I'm sitting at my car, confused)
OH NO!!!!! Don't start taking the car apart before enjoying it!! I drove my car for six months and then 'changed the wipers'. That turned into 16 months of 'while I'm in here' work. I am finally back... kinda.
Ossratura sottovolante! part # 40350605 (otherwise known as lower steering column trim) Look for it used... Has anyone recovered their dash top with something that does not reflect glare into the windshield? I find this so incredibly annoying that it may actually be worthwhile removing and covering it, even though it is in great condition...
Thanks for the reality check. That's the only interior trim missing and it looks easy to attach, but I assume quite hard to find.
Why? I can't say that fixing those flaps will make your A/C work any better. When it's working well, it's marginal at best. Besides, Summer is almost over!
R12 here also. Really works OK until the car is outside in the sun and heat. Once heated up, it is difficult to cool it down. 38 degrees out of the vent. The early GT4's don't have the center dash vent which could only help. It's 85 here today on the left coast. It could only cool it down enough to make it not so uncomfortable.
It seems like the hoses attaching to the fittings are an issue, most of them on my car were "repaired" with duct tape (and leaking). I have been replacing that with 4" super shrink, works very well and looks great, just a real bear to get to this stuff to work on it. If you can't find some near you, my local electronics surplus house (Skycraft) sells it for around 7 per foot.
Finally got the dash off. What a mess. A lot of extra screws and excess glue keeping things tight. Probably when the PO replaced the dash fabric. Found this thing hiding behind the dash. It was wired to the hazard light switch. I think its OEM so I'm not going to remove it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Holy crap that's hilarious. and only a handful of people may even get that joke. Dr K- I was wondering how your car has been coming- long time no post.
Hi guys, I am in the process of buying a GT4 as we speak. The dash surface is a mess-- cracked and faded. What does it take to get this repaired? Can an upholstery shop just recover it or do I need some special Ferrari-only replacement part? I'm not looking to win Pebble Beach with this, just trying to keep it well sorted and original-looking.
Car is great. I spent the Summer driving... Im now buttoning up loose ends/finding new things that need 'repair'. Usual rabbit-hole some of us go down.
hahaha.....I am going to age myself.....so many good memories in a convertible 1969 Pontiac 2+2....the speakers to a drive in movie theatre......oh where are thou my love....
