These cars have always been one of my favorites. I just love the simple, low, sleek design.

I have two questions if anyone can shed some light on them, great.

1: I know F1 stands for, well F1, and 87 and 88 were the years. Anybody know what the C stood for?

2: I have always wondered about the differences though. I know they were 90% the same cars, but were there (and if so what) any visual differences between the two or not? I've looked at so many pics, and can never tell any real differences besides wings (which always changed through both years depending on track).

    Thanks!

Big fan of the F1/87 and F1/87/88C.

Don't know what the "C" is, but I do know some minor differences with the '87 and '88 cars:

    - Different front and rear wings
    - Slightly lower engine cover in the F1/87/88C (my understanding is due to the reduction in fuel tank size)
    - Less power in the F1/87/88C

I'd say about 10 years ago, there was an F1/87 for sale...far out of my price range then, but I believe extremely reasonable for a Formula 1 Ferrari. Would love to just sit in it for fun, just a great looking car (although replaced by an even better looking car - the Ferrari 640)

Thanks! The tube and antenna differences at least help telling them apart in race trim.

Thanks...as much as I look the engine covers look the same. Must be a small difference. As for the wings, they ran multiple styles for both years, so it makes it tuff to know what is what.

c stands for corse - race in italian. in the early 80's Ferrari racing was changed from Scuderia Ferrari to Ferrari Corse.. Reparto Corse Ferrari to be exact. all aspects of the team was moved into Foriano in 80-81 ...

Humm, not too sure about this. From 1961-1989 it was officialy known as Scuderia Ferrari SpA SEFAC...

Nope- ( sorry dont mean to be sarcastic ) - the race team was called reparto Corse. Ferrari SEFAC was changed to SpA in 69 when Fiat bought into the business. Reparto Corse was the name given to the "independent Ferrari Race team while Enzo was alive. Check out Brock Yates book, and or a lot of the italian Route in Pista from the 80's... I beleive when Fiat took total control of the F-1 team when Enzo died, its all back to Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari SpA. if its even SpA now?

I've never heard this before to be honest...

This seems to agree with me: Scuderia Ferrari - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Someone owns one of these cars - I've seen it on YouTube (it may be a Corse Clienti car) - any idea?

There are actually a few being raced in historical events and at track days.
