Wouldn't power to weight ratio be a better list? Looks good though.

Agree that power-to-weight for the cars on this list would be interesting to see.
Easy to calculate this once we get all the curb weight figures added for each car in the list.

Also, top-speed, best-lap-time-around-the-Fiorano-race-track, and zero-to-sixty-time would be great.

Hard to get complete and reliable data on all these cars though.
Even the horsepower ratings in this list are far from perfect.

Great thread, can't believe I missed it until now.
Shouldn't the LaFerrari be listed at 950 to include power from the electric motor?

    Interesting point.
I added it as a note to the right on the LaFerrari line. (ninja edit style).

Didn't 599 production begin in 2007? Or did the ROW get it before us?

I thought officially the first 599 was a 2006?? Any experts out there want to confirm/correct the data?

Interesting list, and I've only just discovered it today. I claim no expertise in any of this, and forgive me if this is out of line....but I seem to remember that the 308GTB and GTS of around 1979-81 (U.S. versions) had only 205 hp, at least according to the magazines. It went up to 240 when fuel injection was introduced.

    Thanks,

    Neil

I hope I am wording this correctly...

I've watched the oldest (and by the list) least powerful cars go around many tracks with more involvement than the modern cars with huge HP/Torque #s.

iSht... Sometimes I got a near-depleting adrenaline hit by watching (and hoping) it gets through the turn. Can only imagine the driver rush.

This is a *very* interesting parallel thread to the 'How much power is enough.'

Great thread. Race cars too? (The3 500 Mondial is a race car). How about the 712 CAN AM car and the 312T F1? :)

The TR number is rather conservative. It maybe rated in the book at that number but the dyno doesn't lie. North of 400hp is more appropriate.

By "TR", are you referring to the 1984 to 1991 Testarossa?

If yes, what number should be used?
I'll add it as a note to the right of the "book hp number".

    390 hp, Testarossa, 1984 - 1991
    428 hp, 512 TR, 1991 - 1994
    440 hp, 512 M, 1994 - 1996

Yes, the Testatrossa. Ferrari kept the numbers low to keep our friends in Washington happy. Based on the dyno runs I have seen of stock TR engines...figure anywhere from 405hp to 412hp. A simple notation is appropriate.
