I purchased an 1999 F355 in April. The car had been sitting for 2 years. It was missing several parts as it was a bank repo. I had the cam belts replaced and put into gear it drove forwards and reversed then when I went to put all of the trim pieces back on I stated car and tried to drive it and it will not select a gear the warning light comes on. Another interesting thing is that the gear indicator says neutral but when you push on vehicle it feels like is in a gear, it will let you push it a little ways but then stops. The brake warning light is also on if this matters however brake Lights work. I hear the pump prime and even with car not running you cannot select a gear, any ideas?

    Start with the obvious:

#1 With the engine running the hood, doors and trunk need to be closed for the F1 system to select a gear out of neutral. If any are open, it will beep and drop back to neutral.

#2 sounds like the emergency brake is engaged.

The pump always turns on as soon as the key is turned on.

Thanks for the reply, I have never been in an F1 car (working) so have no ideas of how it should function. Can you go through all of the gears with the car off? As of now the car will not change out of neutral (indicator), it doesn't go into anything on indicator. You start car have everything closed and go to select a gear and it beeps four times with orange light. The weird thing is it worked yesterday and now doesn't it.

Thanks for anything , I will try anything.

Thanks, I think at this point I should probably have it towed in and scanned. Any ideas to get it to roll I don't want to drag it on truck.

Most proper towing companies have skid pads they put under the wheels to drag it onto the truck. This will cause no wear to the tires or other components.

When you pull the hand brake handle, how far up does it move? I had a problem with a car in the past where the handbrake was out of adjustment, and even when it was 'fully released' it would still drag on one of the rotors. I had to adjust the cable and it worked properly after that. Before I had made the adjustment, when I pulled up on the handbrake handle, it would only move about 2 Inches.

I think the e-brake might have something to do with it, I went to check it and it won't release at all, I'll keep everyone posted

I would suggest you read the WSM you can download it online for free. Going by memory I can maybe clear up a few things. First of all all gears can be changed with car engine off and shifting with the paddles. Some reasons it won't shift if everything mechanical is in order are the following. Hood open, rear bonnet open, door open, or foot not on brake. Or the computer thinking any of these things are not done. Possibly faulty switches, door, hood, rear bonnet, brake.

Just to clarify the e brake won't cause your problems and neither will brake fluid

The final solution was a bad connection to clutch position sensor, cleaned the connection and it now works fine, the reason it felt like it was in gear was because the lug nuts are too long. I figured this out by jacking up rear and turning wheels by hand. Thanks for everyone's help and will post a pic of the connector that I cleaned

Sorry missed that your warning light came on. Glad you found it. The WSM also gives insite into the f1 system and is very interesting reading
