I've been driving that car once or twice a week. Most recently yesterday and the day before. I have yet to use the tender . I do have the tender wired in.

This morning for the first time it is weak and won't turn over. I haven't had any battery lights

I have no idea how old the battery is. It is an interstate. I am thinking just get a new battery to at least have a data point of age

Should I just replace it with the interstate type that is there? Any particular size requurements?

    Thank you

Try the tender I use it all the time. I use them to keep several batteries topped off for our toys. You may just need a deep charge cycle. If the battery is older then 3 years and a acid type replace it. Jersey winter summer cycles eat batteries, I know that from expeirance :)

I believe its a 34 series battery with reversed terminals. I been using oddesy batteries for the last 7-8 years. No acid, spill-proof and high quality.

If you change battery get in there and clean paint any corrosion you may see in the battery tray.

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks Tim. It appears from searching on here that it is a 34R. Local firestone shop is open and they only have a 34 , no R. It seems from searching that there is enout cable for a 34 as well.

Can anyone confirm this? I cant return it of it doesnt fit and of course I want to do it today, right now!!! haha

Different between a 34 and a 34R is that the terminals are reversed on a 34R.

Anyway, your battery should not go dead in a week if the car is left unattended unless you have something drawing too much current. I generally disconnect the battery (with he switch under the front hood) if my car will sit more than a week. I have a 95 so I don't have the immobilizer and that may make a different.

I've had not problems in any of my 5 cars with regular batteries lasting at least 6 years. The Sears Diehard battery in my 308 is going on 12 years old with no problem. I disconnect it in fall for winter storage and in spring the 308 starts no problem without needing a charge. And that is in New England where the winters are probably a little harder than in NJ.

I actually swapped to the 34 not the "R" as I do not like how they have the positive terminal so close to the inside frame and went to a side mount along with a better mounting system (race style) If you take a look see you will see what I mean. I have broken the battery loose from the LA highway system.

Something to consider if your not in a rush :)

If I don't use the tender and don't drive for a weak, the crank is weak. Which reminds me, off to connect the tender now...

Is it a pain to use the disconnect switch on a 96 or later car? I always use it on my 95. Haven't seen any ill effects. When I want to drive the car I just reconnect, start the car and let the ECU relearn for 10 minutes or so.

I've disconnected (shut off) mine a dozen or more times with no ill effect (while working on the car) but it's easier to connect the tender

I am currently living in CA with the F355 in Texas. I can leave the car with the battery off for 3 months, come home, turn it on, key it on, wait 30 seconds for the servos to find their set points, crank it over and it runs just fine.

With the battery left connected I can only get 7 days from a long run to a dead battery. This has to do with the leakage of electrolytic capacitors uses extensively throughout the car slowly leaking (more and more) charge as they age.

I've been driving it regularly a couple times a week and this is the first time it's been weak. A couple hours on the trickle today and it cranks hard and fast.

My car is on the bottom of a lift and its a pia to get at the switch when it's parked.

Funny but interstate batteries is in long branch , nj around the corner from me. I was going to go there tomorrow and get an r but now Tim muddied the waters. LOL Tim. Now you need to take your wheel off and open it up and take pictures.

I last drove one week ago, did not connect tender until today (this thread). Went to start the car to wash it and no go. I washed DD instead. I'm sure it will be fine tomorrow morning.

Just curious, where to you connect your battery tender? Directly to the battery or in the back at the jump terminals, or does it make a difference (assuming the battery switch in in the ON position)?

Mine is connected to the battery but I don't think it matters, I've seen others in the back.

I don't think it matters where it is connected because many of these battery tenders include a plug to use with the cig lighter to charge.

The battery was almost dead again this morning and has been on the tender for 2 days.

I went to Interstate and got a new 34R.

This place is a wholesale distributor of Interstate batteries. Just a warehouse that will sell to the public. I asked the guy who they sell to and he said independent shops , etc. and some private label stuff.

As I was walking out there was a pallet of batteries there labelled Kirkland, which is Costco's private label brand.

I asked how old my old mine was as I brought it in as a core and he said 6 years. (07). Pretty much the expected life he said.

I can leave the battery on mine for a few weeks with no charger & she starts ok.
As a habit now, I leave the tender on it during winter. Never a problem.
It's a Ferrari unit & connects at the left front fender.

IMHO - it's probably your battery. Interstates give me about 5 years & that's it. The dealer should be able to check it's status for shorts & such.

I'm not a fan of using the disconnect switch. I had it trash my alarm once already.

I'm pretty confident its the battery given it's age. New one is installed and I will use the tender now as a matter of habit.

Are you going to Florham Park Clyde? If so see you there.

I tend to change mine out every five years, even if they're working well, just to avoid stress on the alternator (and driver).

    Hi Bob,

Interstate has a few 34R's, if you can, please post the P/N of what you bought.

    Thanks.

PS, the manual states: FIAMM 12V-70Ah-420A

    Dave I bought an MT34R.

I just called Interstate and he told me they will be discontinuing the MT version of that battery and all that will be available will be the AGM (something glass matrix, which he said is ridiculous expensive). I paid $118 for mine and he had two in stock.

    I use the tender religiously.....
If the car is going to sit more than a few days, I plug it in....

My battery is 7 years old (gonna change it this summer just due to the age) and it still turns the car over on the first crank even if it had been sitting for a month or more....
