I live in So Cal...most of the time my red/tan F430 Spider does not get a second look. I like that.

I had a nice interaction this morning. My wife and I were dropping off our 3 year old daughter to her private preschool. Wife drives her Lexus with our child, I drove my Ferrari. Upon exiting my car in the school parking lot, one of the school moms (not unattractive, slightly on the "larger" side though approaches me with her son. She proceeds to tell me how much she and her son talk about ****** (my child's name) and her Dad's Ferrari. She tells me her son really likes Ferraris, and I respond back that he's a very smart boy with excellent taste! He reaches into his backpack and pulls out a small scale Enzo toy, in Rosso of course. I'm overjoyed, and offer to let him sit in my Ferrari. At this point, they're both speechless. So, I walk them over, open the door, and make the kid's day. It was really sweet. I love to see small kids enthusiastic about the brand, and I hope it gives them even more reasons to strive for success. That was a nice way to start the day, for both of us!
The CS and the Starbucks Kids… I hadn't had the CS out much in the past couple of weeks, so I decided to take it over to the barber shop and give the boys something to chat about while I got a much needed hair cut. The shop has the perfect CS parking spot, not 10 feet from the door, and I get to stare at the great lines while they take the weed whacker to my hair. This particular day there was a seemingly endless parade of Fcar fans, as I saw more cell phone cameras than usual pop out to record the CS' presence. One young man in his early 20's stood out from the group, taking pictures from every angle and vantage point. After he's done, he comes into the shop and starts teasing one of the barbers about getting a new car. The barber pointed the young man over in my direction. He was definitely an enthusiast as he knew every aspect and stat on the CS. He did admit that his favorite Ferrari was the F40. When I let him know that one just happened to reside for a time with the CS, I saw his knees go weak! With the chat over, he went back to work at the Starbucks next door. When I was done getting spruced up, and getting into the CS, I noticed six sets of eyes at the Starbucks window. As I am strapping in the boys come out and the young enthusiast asks, "How about a test drive"? I looked over and said, "You can't test drive it. But if you want a ride, I've got some time". There goes those knees again, as he exclaims, "You'll give me a ride"? I give him a nod. I apparently didn't have to ask twice, as before I knew it my passenger seat was occupied with a big grinning Starbucks employee! The road that my barber is on has a great little hill, with a few twists. He stated that this was his first ride in a Ferrari, and that he would always remember it. I was going to make sure that it was going to be firmly etched in his hard drive! The CS lights to a guteral growl. As we head out of the lot, the open road becons and I give it the 8500 rpm howl through three gears, apexing a couple of corner on the hill. I can see the grin growing wider and wider, with each exclaimation of WOW, coming from right seat. We turned around to head back to Starbucks reality, all the while he enthused about the acceleration, the handling... and that noise!! As I drop him off, he must have thanked me 10 times. I doubt he will need anymore cafein for the rest of the week! I have been around these cars most of my life, and at times take them for granted. But giving a ride to a young enthusiast always takes me back to my roots, and how I would drag my parents 30 miles out of the way just to get a glimpse of a 308 that I thought might be at a dealer! Car guys bridge all generations.
Was at a local car show with the 996 TT. Had a family come up with a young son, maybe 9 or 10 who was looking and touching the car. His father corrected him, and I said don't worry it's just a car, here....and with that I opened the door and let the kid in. His father and mother both took pictures of him in the car....then the dad asks shyly....you mind if I get a couple too. No problem I said. So I'm talking with the family afterwords and the kid is going crazy about how hes going to show his friends in school and how he wants a car like that. And his father asked me for his son what do you have to do to get one of these. I said right back, make sure you pay attention in school, and study hard, and pay attention to your parents. I know if someone were to have said that to me when I was 10 I would have listened to a T. Just nice that these cars can do such positive things. Too me that's the fun of owning these type of cars.
Love when people get speechless when I let their child or even them to get in and sit inside the cars... you make their day! I'm planning in buying small toy cars from the models I drive and give to nice little kids and encourage them to be good and work hard!
Took a four hour drive in a 250 gt swb sefac. No reactions and only one couple walked over when we parked it in a national park lodge parking lot. Incredible car though...
Indeed. Nobody knew what they were looking at. My wife tells me that woman is carrying a $30k purse. It just looks like a purse to me. Nothing special.
Why don't these things ever happen to me? I would have been able to say, "But my other ride is a RAM 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with a 4" Rancho lift, 35" mudders, and a Ranch Hand Bullnose!" Oh well, in a few months I'll be able to say, "But my other ride is a RAM SRT-10!" Maybe then. lol. My car - red 456M GTA - draws crowds and elicits lots of thumbs up. I find people disappearing into my blind spot a lot, and when I look back, they are taking photos or video. Only ever had one negative look, and it was from an obviously broke loser in a really beat up heap. I almost felt sorry for him, but I laughed anyway. Cheers, George
I was driving to get some Thai takeout on sunday, and make a left hand turn onto the highway. I was in the left most lane. I start accellerating in the lane and his guy/gal in a Black Tahoe in the middle lane swerves into my lane.. sees me and then darts back into the middle lane. Naturally I get mad at the birdbrain driving.. so I gun it and blow past them on the right side... Nitwit then swerves yet again into the rightmost lane and turns off. At the next light this VW pulls up next to me and rolls down the window.. this woman says "excuse me, but that was Badass!" and smiles. I say "thank you" and drive on.
Filling up my 348 at a petrol station, had a guy in a brand new R8 V10 come over to me and say love the Ferrari V8's they sound amazing. Walked around my car in awe they just look awesome. Felt so boosted huge grin!
I was up North in the boonies when I had to pull into a Mc-D's for a nature call. As I was going in a teenager said "nice car" coming out an older guy said, "Hey is that one of those Mazer-rati's?" And another in a gas station said to me - "Do you have to put jet fuel in it"? And, "keep the shiny side up". I've been having a riot with this. People taking pictures, asking me all kinds of goofy questions. Its been fun - so far.
I went out for takeout to a local restaurant yesterday in the 360. The restaurant's hostesses are usually high school girls - the kind of hotties who weren't exactly interested in me when I was in high school (mind you, I was popular for other reasons!). The takeout parking spot is right in front of a large row of windows that looks out the north side of the restaurant. The hostesses see everything from that spot. I pulled in and walked to the takeout counter, also in the lobby. I turned around and 3 hotties are glued to the window staring at my car. They are saying "that's such a nice car" and as I walk past, I gently say "thanks!" Then I walked outside, put the takeout on the pass. footwell, walked around to my side and got in. I gave them a smile and a wave, and started her up. She barks on startup, so the girls all jumped, and then started smiling again. It was fun... Also, while out getting coffee yesterday at Sbux, a colleague of mine asks me "How many miles per gallon?" I replied that I have no idea, but it's not terrible. I said "it doesn't have cruise control, so asking it to calculate its MPG is out of the question."
i got the "whats your gas mileage like in that thing" the other day. reference my 308. my response was "over 100 smiles per gallon"
A young man heard / saw me arrive at his place of employment; he came out, smiling, and said "Thanks for delivering my car."
I turn into a total car bore when people show an interest, any question, any time, and I love it. It's nice to be able to show people that Ferrari owners a the same as them, petrol heads, and that we aren't all rich dipsticks (some of us are poor dipsticks!)
I had a funny encounter on Saturday. Wife and I went down to Cincinnati to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary with a nice quiet dinner. We were about to pull onto I-75 South and I pointed out a white Pontiac at a traffic light with a guy standing up so he was extending through the sunroof of the car. He had his camera phone, of course (dunno if he was taking photos or videos). He shouted something at me - to the effect of "Beautiful, SO SEXY!" I said "Thanks, I know you're talking about my wife!" He goes "uhhhh, no sir, I meant the car." I think I caught him off guard! Local kids have also been posting videos of my car to Instagram. These crazy kids today....
My experiences have been mostly positive, the usual thumbs up and smiles and some pictures. I was only 22 when I first bought the car and I got some weird reactions then, people don't seem to realize the rather low value of a 308 and because mine still looks like a new car that doesn't help. I had one pretty bad experience though. My friends own a fine dining restaurant about 10 minutes drive from my farm and I took the 308 there one evening for one of their birthdays. I pulled into one of the spots in front of the restaurant and there were a couple guys quite close (it turned out they had already been kicked out of a bar nearby). One of the guys comes and says "hey Magnum", I just smiled and closed the car door, then he says "hey f***ing Magnum you wanna f***ing fight?" I say no and the conversation continues and it became clear I was going to have to fight or have my car damaged by these two jerks. Just as we start to get going all my friends from the birthday party finally notice and they and about 10 other regulars at the restaurant come into the parking lot and send these guys on their way. One of my friends went to kick the one guy in the butt to send him on his way and miscalculated a bit and gave him a hard kick between the anus and testicles. It was all pretty embarassing but the evening wasn't all bad. One older guy that had come out to my aid asked me for a ride later on and we became good friends and have gone on many hunting trips together. The whole thing kind of soured me for a while though.
Why is it that anytime I honk my horn at a Ferrari or Lambo to give them a thumbs up, they go out of their way to look the opposite direction. . .
LMAO. Yeah, it's a dumb name, but really. You guys seem relaxed and cool about it. The car naturally comes with attention, so why do the owners around my part of town seem to act like it's a curse. The only cool dude has a Porsche 959
Thats awesome! Whenever I go to a car show, I let people sit in my car as well (with the seat and door edge covered). It always gives them a thrill. I figure we have these amazing cars, why not share the gift with others? I know many people don't feel the same way though.
Maybe because you're the tuba player in the high school marching band? Don't know........Just guessing.
