Did you guys catch the 348 at the back of the grid at Monza this weekend? As the F1 pack was lined up on the grid a 348 with roof mounted warning lights brought up the rear of the pack with one of the AMG safety cars. With the origional black sills unpainted and in Rossa Corsa she looked like a beautiful early factory car.... What a thrill for the 348 Brotherhood..Er?
I seen it to, thought it might be a 355 at first, since that was Luca's baby! After the race, had to go love on my car a little. What a fine sight she is!!
So what's the story? Why do they keep using a now 20 year old car on their home track? You'd think every year would be a new one??? Kai
Always a thrill every year. I was telling my wife the story of Gerhard Berger and the 348 earlier today and she just started grinning and chuckling to herself. When I asked her what was funny, she goes: You've told me this exact same thing every time they race at Monza for the last 4 years - it's obviously one of your favourite stories". "Ah.", I say. She replies: "Same time next year?" All the best, Andrew.
One of my facebook friends (Glen) took a ride in that 348 this past race weekend and filmed it. CEA Squadra Corse Ferrari 348 TB Monza - YouTube

what a great thrill it is to just know this brilliant fact....wonder what LdM thinks to himself year after year when the FIA/ Mr. Bernie or whoever who sanctions what cars should do what at Monza authorises the "worst Ferrari ever" to go alongside the AMG safety cars at the F1?!!!
Well, nismodrifter relayed it fairly succinctly: But here's a video of Gerhard Berger's 1989 Imola incident: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXKTGz9txTw]Gerhard Berger 1989 Imola crash - with his interview - YouTube[/ame] And another thread on the subject of the marshals' 348 with a bit more detail: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/337196-f1-348-safety-car.html And that's about it, really. Nice thread, thanks for sharing those videos and pics. Now that I see the Berger accident on youtube, I remember that I was watching that race on tv when I was a child (11 years old). It was a very impactant moment for me at that young age. However, I didn't know about the CEA 348 story. Every year I saw that 348 on the F1 gp grid I wondered, why?
I was there too......wearing my 348 /355 Brotherhood cap just so you would recognise me. No one turned up....went to the helicopters.....the parking place between Ascari and Parabolica.....over the bridge to where all the shops were......Niki Laudas race car and of course in and out both Saturday and Sunday....no contact at all. Pity. Nice story about the 348. Did not know that. We might go to Spa next year......maybe se you there???? //B//

I was at Monza last weekend and it was really great to see them still using the 348. But please guys, for heavens sake put a Tubi exhaust on it. It sounds like a Toyota compared with the Mercedes pace car!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll lend them mine if they ask nicely!
