Anyone watch this show on Discovery? Another in a long line of "reality" shows, but I gather there is some merit to what they show. Seems like a crazy job, and with limited time to inspect, I would think dangerous.
Caught an episode where they were taking a Falcon or Hawker in the middle of the night while raining. Probably not real, but interesting "reality" show.
It's about as fake as you can get! Should really be referred to as a "docudrama" so they could get some better actors.
Well one thing that struck me as odd - the pilot for Ken Cage was "Nasty" from the other docudrama "Warlocks Rising". He's an enforcer for the 1% biker gang, yet he's flying Lear jets for an airplane repo shop. Hmmmmmm.... I know the guy / company that created "Pawn Stars", and he told me that it's all "scripted", or at least "guided". I was also part of an episode of "Cake Boss" and sure enough...it was guided. The predecessor to "Airplane Repo" (similarly titled "Airplane Repo Man" had a guy named Nick Popovich - it seemed far more interesting and realistic.
Unfortunately, it's all fake. There have been accusations that the aircraft are borrowed or rented. It's about as real as Amish Mafia and Moonshiners.
Popovich actually does repo airplanes, or at least his employees do. However, I think all of this has been "recreated" and does not even have a thin connection to reality any more.
I have watched them all. The fact that my wife likes the current version tells me its more like the Kardasians than reality. I liked the Popovich show, they seemed real enough, of course the newer ones are fake, last week I watched an SR22 get towed out of a hanger at john wayne with no fuel only to take on fuel at whiteman with security on his tail... There is a big disclaimer at the end of the show that states, the names, times and places have been changed to protect.....well you get the point They block off the tail numbers on video, but if you listen to the ATC calls you get the numbers, by my reckoning about 50% seem to match type and model For what its worth...anything that gets aviation on TV is fine with me...the Texan bloke seems the most legit of the group as he actually sits left seat in most of the aircraft, and I did catch him once on the Popovich show as a pilot....
All the climbing fences and stuff, anyone who's been to a GA airport knows you can just walk right through the FBO onto the ramp, they even hold the door for you...
Nick Popovich lives in my town..Valparaiso In. It's cool to drive downtown and see one of his several Bentleys at a local coffee house. A lady in my church works for him. She says he is a real good guy. Geffen
Iv'e glanced at all of these so called reality whatevers and they are all so fake that none of them are worth it to me to watch. The worst is "The Call of The Wild Man", a male Honey Boo Boo only skinnier. I grew up in Florida and worked in the Everglades for two summers and that toothless wonder is ludicrous. The airplane repo is almost as bad when a camera is mounted under the tail of a Super Cub during the frantic repo so we had shots from the belly of it lifting off in the snow. Then the desperate climb over the tree line with sound of Patty Wagstaff's Extra 300 blaring away was a bit stupid.
Right - or the owner of said repossessed plane is chasing them...but the camera man stays behind...sure.... Realize the show is fluffed up, but are the repo guys really repo guys???
I met Kevin Lacey this weekend at a local airshow. I ran into him in a hanger while waiting to catch a ride in a T-6 Texan. There were no cameras around and he was as nice as could be. I could tell that he is just as ornery as in the show. We chatted for a bit and he told me the hanger we were in was the very same hanger where he had a workshop and restored his first plane. I can tell you one thing, he is no actor.
He might be a real pilot, but simply being in that show makes him an actor as well. I bet he has a SAG card...
Yes he is. He also mentioned that he certified the pilot (Kevin Raulie) on the T-6 nearly two decades ago.
It's very difficult to watch. So loaded w phony drama, not to mention breaking and entering of hangars. It's strike me as complete horse-s--t.
This was a much better show...only ever found it on youtube [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GziV0efQrN4]Dangerous Flights S01E01 - YouTube[/ame]
