I know he uses the old fashioned drawing board, but really he is just setting out overall dementions and the "strategy" I dont think anybody any longer is desiging the entire car. between computer simulaiton and CFD software its almost impossible to do on paper in the time alotted the same work.
They're already hybrid man . Just hope the new engines don't sound as dull as the Indycar ones. A 1.6L V8 turbo would have been more interesting, with about the same power, but much nicer sound. Oh well. Let's just hope it doesn't detract from the sport.
I for one welcome the change in some ways. While I know this new turbo era will be nothing like the one in the 80s, which had less stringent rules and cars that made big horsepower. I hope that it at least brings some change and innovation to F1. I also am glad to see the return of the low noses that in my opinion look much better than the current pretty ugly, duckbilled platypus high noses.

As AUTOSPORT revealed last week, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has submitted a draft calendar that features 21 races, while New Jersey is still adamant it can fulfil its contract to make it on there too. If that happens, it would leave teams facing 22 grands prix, with Ecclestone telling media in Italy that such a scenario could not be ruled out. But although in previous years expanding the calendar has simply meant improved financial terms for the teams to compensate the increased cost of more events, sources have revealed that things are much more complicated for next season. That is because the 2014 engine rules limit each driver to just five of the new V6 turbo power units per season, which was going to be a challenge even without new events being added.

I too would love to see the return of a manual gearbox. But, it will never happen...last year Ferrari ran one was 1988.
Yep, 8 forward gears next season; I guess they'll use some fancy S/W to choose which subset they'll use at each circuit - Top at Monaco is a lot lower than top at Monza of course. Already banned.... Cheers, Ian
Tobias Gruner on Twitter reporting that Rory Byrne has said lap times will increase by 4-5 seconds per lap next year, mainly as a result of 50kg extra weight. WOW. They better find a way to slow down GP2 cars otherwise we may have to crown them fastest cars around a road course.
Is there any news on a possible adjustment to the GP2 formula. Horner said recently the teams made a mistake by taking up this new formula for the V6. A bit late for regrets!
Doubt that will be the case. They are saying the new engines are making more power. I say times will be pretty close...
The V6 turbo has nothing to do with any possible issues. The most powerful F1 cars ever were the 80's I4 and V6 turbo/twin turbo cars. Yes, they had less rules then, but the problem (if any) with the new cars will be from this stupid energy recovery system and it's added weight...
